I was contacted by one of the Aztecs looking to sell 30 copies of their 45, and I just received an email asking for $325 apiece! That seems a little exorbitant for that quantity find.

$200 is a bit too cheap.
Other than George G. finding / winning a copy for peanuts on ebay years back, I have never seen a copy of the single offered in 30 years via a mail order list / dealer list, or via a private collector.
The seller doesn't have to blow them all out in the span of a few days, either. A smart person will dole them out at the set-sale price and keep it there until all copies are sold off.
Besides, if an overseas mod DJ gets a hold of the 45, $325 will seem like a bargain in the future, once the scenester sheep decide they must own said single.

The overseas scene plays "Abba" (Paragons) which is as far removed from being a tailor-made dance floor sound as any other record.
30 copies is not a lot, or an endless supply. And the seller is free to price as they wish; people / collectors don't have to buy the 45 if they are uncomfortable paying the asking price. Being able to afford to pay is another matter entirely.

I think there are 30 collectors who would eventually pay the asking price, for certain. Look how many people shell out a close to and over grand for 45s like the Gentlemen, Human Expression...
Why is it so important that the seller sell all the copies as fast and as cheap as possible? If you want one, pay the asking price.

Hmm.. in the email I got he mentioned 25 copies ! Might be it's because Mark provided him with a price scale that valued 10-25 copies at $ 325 , 26-50 at $ 250 . Now of course I would have prefered to pay $ 250 , but on the other hand if a copy had turned up on ebay I would have bid over $ 500 and I'm sure I wouldn't have been the only one .

Yes, that seems a bit sneaky. But beggars can't be choosers and I'm not taking my chances on this one. Didn't think I'd be able to own one for years and years since you guys also were missing copies. A quantity find was not something I expected.

Yikes. Just got a call from my better half who's on maternity leave and at home. A messenger had just delivered the Aztecs 45 packaged in what looked like an old shoebox, stuffed with single cushioning bubbles. The single had of course ended up at the bottom of the package where the outer rim had stuck to some tape from some flimsy cardboard he'd wrapped around it. Knowing my fear & loathing of poor packaging of records she could barely contain herself, laughing heartily.

I guess my feeble atempt at explaning how to properly package 45s did not seep in.

Good luck to those of you who have ordered and not yet received it!

I've had a few records packed in this way over the years before but fortunately no break.

I usually swear my head off for 5 minutes (calling the sender a fucking idiot, a wanker, a knob, a cock knocker....you can guess the rest) then carefully open the package...Makes me feel better....

Yes, I know that feeling very well. And swearing does indeed help.

Turns out the missus made it sound a bit worse than it was, but taping the cushioning around the cardboard would have been a plus. Does not matter now, it arrived spotless! Does not even need a cleaning, looks like it was pressed yesterday!

Good thing I had mine shipped to a friend in the US . A box that size wouldn't fit into my postbox and would have definitely been stopped by the customs office .

I realize this might not be ideal for folks over seas, but it's usually a good bet to ask label owners and band members to allow you to send them mailers. Their idea packing usually involves shoeboxes, flat-rate priority mailers, or envelopes with random bits of cardboard. Sometimes a combination of packing styles/materials will be revealed unto thee... such as this piece of work involving a $600 "mod psych dancer" from Eastern New Mexico.

Still... they all pack better than professional Texas record dealer Les Harris.... err Roberto, or whatever he's going by this week.

I have a stack full of Moerer mailers at hand for that exact purpose, and after the Aztecs incident I´ve decided it´s time to take the final step & start offering this solution when shopping high. It´s worth it.

I just grabbed one for myself..I think MTM is correct in saying that once this hits Ebay, this small quantity will be gone quickly. There are many collectors who fly under the radar that do not participate on this forum and will not be able to buy one ..
