I chose Them but think the Zombies were equally influential. Van's snarling vocals suit the US garage sounds better than Colin's whispery voice...

As far as I'm concerned The Animals' I'm Crying is a blueprint for many garage bands;)

For years, I'd always thought that the Rolling Stones version of "Fortune Teller" was the blueprint, but after reading your comment Jim, I'm inclined to agree with you. A great song!

Gotta say that anything by the Stones from 1966-1971 is just as awesome as the Beatles. I like some "garagey"/beat-style Stones stuff, but i even like the Beatles' beat/r'n'b cover tunes better than the Stones'. Beatles' "Everybody's Tryin To Be My Baby' cover is damn garagey/fratty imho. Also, special mention to High Numbers (pre-Who) who to me totally have a great early US type frat sound on some tracks

i voted for the stones which i'd consider the overall "best" of the choices above.

still, with our beloved u.s. teen beat, i fail to hear something like a bigger influence on the groups. i think that u.s. teen beat / garage is a wholly u.s. american sound, with the british groups merely being a phenomenon that brought teen music into the public conscience.

when i listen to u.s. garage i hear a lot of byrds, raiders, "folk", instro, r&b.

of course, there are groups/songs that are/sound distinctively "british".

most influential from the list above: probably kinks.

The poll states, "Best British Invasion band which influenced US Garage Punk", but some responders appear to be reading it as "Britsh Invason band which best influenced Garage Punk".

yep ^ , Outside is correct here

I cast my vote for the Beatles. i did so not because their effect on garage caused the best music to be made.

I voted for the Beatles cuz no band (imho, absolutely positiviely no other band) has had a bigger influence on garage/teenbeat
