Best tracks in Byrds-style/their covers (1965-1968)

Always liked The Byrds and 12-string electrics...especially Rickenbacker 360s.
Way too many great 60s covers and sound-alikes to keep track of, but songs
from The Rogues (NY), The Bethlehem Exit (CA), The Briks (TX) and The
Maundy Quintet (FL) immediately come to mind. Aside from AOR's Tom Petty
and some of the Paisley Underground groups from the 70s and 80s, there
persisted a few groups in every decade that still kept that sound alive, some
of the better ones interestingly were in the U.K. (like Shack and the later 90s
Teenage Fanclub). Just for fun, here's a previously-unreleased original by
Starry-Eyed and Laughing (U.K.) from 1975 that smokes anything on their two LPs
and sounds like the entire '66 Byrds Fifth Dimension album distilled into one song:

Listened to 5D today and agree that this song makes 5D redundant. Dave your description couldn't have been more accurate. Thank you so much for posting this killer song! 👍👊

SE&L were pretty cool band (until they got 'political' in this Century). They also did a hip version of Gene Clark's first solo single "Echoes"....
reimagining it as The Byrds might have done it if Gene was still in the band during the '67 Younger Than Yesterday sessions.

I'm amazed at how incorrectly people hear a song, in the typical key of D, with jangle and a single note melodic lead, and consider it a 12 string guitar sound. The Rogues / Squires never had a 12 string guitar, just those Jaguars, as Dave B. points out.
Here are some songs that come immediately to my mind using a 12 string guitar. There is quite a difference as compared to songs people think are 12 string guitar strum rhythms and lead breaks .

Michael & The Medallions "I wanna Talk To You" - you can hear the 'duet' for lack of a better term, of each note as the riff is played.

Denis & The Times - the brilliant 1st single, both sides, especially "Flight Patterns"

Dave did the Jet Plane Rider come with lyrics? I can't completely figure them out 😔😔

I wish. it did. I also wish it came on a 45 rpm analog-mastered 180-gram vinyl 12" record.
That would sound even better than the digital transfer. They could use their super-cool
version of "Lay Down Your Weary Tune" (which improved on the Byrds version) for the flip.
