I thought it might be a useful service for those of us who haven't been keeping up with the scene to have a thread which points out the worthy comps and re-issues which have come out in recent years. Not the ones we all know about, like BFTG and LOTGPU, but the ones which may have eluded some of us, and may still be obtainable.

The Saxony label operated in Cincinnati, Ohio during the 1950s and 1960s.
Someone has gone and reissued a lot of the material: girl group, doowop, teen idols, rockers, and even some garage sounds.

A group from the Cinncy area recorded two tracks that were never issued. Last spring, Saxony pressed up a 45 by the Teddy Boys: "Voice Of The Lonely People" / "King Of The Soapbox". "Voice..." is a big fave of mine, backed with a cool remake of the song originally recorded by the Bad Seeds (Columbia label group). While most of the G45 crew prefer 45s by groups that sound like a BFTG comp, it is these kinds of 45 reissues that attract my interest.

Not many of note of late. I agree with the issue of the Wead acetate.
I'm mostly glad Italians seem to have stopped putting out garage compilations.

The Saxony label was restarted by the original label operator Paul Trefzger who relocated to SF from Cincy. The records were all pressed around 2004/5 and have been for sale since then. Some of the reissued titles have since been sold out. The sound quality varies, either Paul didn't have anything better than copies of copies, or he didn't have the access to high quality mastering.

I've heard the Teardrops CD and the sound quality on that varies from cruddy to very good - as does the quality of the music itself. Haas anyone specifically heard the 2-disc garagey set?
