Fake / Counterfeit offered on ebay

Woah, the nerve of some people. I agree, it is a bootleg. If everyone on here contacts him, maybe he'll pull it. But I doubt it. :flush:

The texture and sheen of the paper and tone of the yellow are wrong as well. And then there's the stamper shape, and the dead wax markings.

Last year an Italian seller was offering dubplates/carvers of a variety of rare garage 45s, none had labels of any kind. These seemed to have no markings in the deadwax, because these were small-batch cuts, not pressed 45s. Not hard work to make these - just send in an mp3 and $15 or whatever to certain companies online.

Some were obviously not meant to fool anyone - for instance the seller would put the Psychotrons "Death Is a Dream" on one side and James Bond & the Agents "Wild Angel" on the other. The audience seemed to be DJs in Europe looking for these in-demand sides. Sometimes he fetched a high price but many seemed to sell for $20-$30.

Easy enough to make fake labels and past them on, and then etch WEE 107 in the deadwax (this seller did a bad job of it too).

I'm sure we'll see many of these type of fakes in the future.

Here's a list I compiled (with Paco's help) of these recent cuts. There may be more

I can't believe that somebody went to the trouble to repro the Savoys on Orlyn . There are still unsold copies floating around from the quantity find and also it's not even that great IMO .

Not to mention lifting the fonts from the red label collector issue.
Whomever created the fake yellow label didn't even bother to scan the red label collector issue B side, "Chaos" to ensure the correct matching font for the A side of the single.

I think the seller created the fake label and tried to pass it off as the original, otherwise he might have kept the auction running.

Jeez, not even close!

I agree we should call out these fraudsters who try and hock counterfeits and bootlegs, but the potential buyers have sole responsibility to ensure what they are bidding on, or planning to purchase is in fact authentic.
