Anyone else into Freddy?
Who?
Being from England I really only knew - Way Down Yonder in New Orleans. Wooh!
Since I moved to the USA I've found a fair few Freddy 45's records not one a disappointment even though they have a big band sound. I got a best of thing on Rhino and love it. Abigail Beecher is a garage big band punker that astounds me so much. It has horns on it, you're suppose to hate horns, Freddy is a horny dude most everything has horns, I love Freddy horns.
His trademark Wooh!
Every song is over-loaded with Woohs. I love it. Wooh Who! Sing a line and go Wooh. It is so dumb.
Every song is fast or danceable. Ballads? Ha ha not one. Yes Freddy looked square never cool. But what other singer can have the credit of never crooning a weepy?
Anyone else think Freddy was a secret but a reasonably large influence on more than a few teen bands and they copied a lot of Cannon's style but mixed it with the Brit Invasion sound? I keep hearing him in mid 60's punk stuff.... I can't think of which bands right now... duh... but those teenage Woohs are there.
You can call me crazy Wooh! I don't care.
And anyone put me onto some 60's teen covers of Freddy Cannon songs and also any obscure Freddy songs I may like.
