I notice that there is a new garage rock comp out, Garage Rock Hits, that is on both eMusic and iTunes. It contain tracks like I'm Gone - Magic Mushroom and Love - Ravin' Blue. Does anybody know anything about whether these tracks are legit and from the masters?

Looking at the track listing, it looks like something thrown together at random as there's a mixture of garage, psych and what has come to be known as freakbeat. Paul Revere and the Raider's "Hungry" is indicated as a re-recording and then you have Iggy & The Stooges "Tight Pants" which really seems out of place. With all of this in mind, it seems highly doubtful to me that this is a legit collection; just look at the cheesy artwork for starters.

It is on iTunes though. Or does iTunes not care whether songs they sell are licensed properly.

That is actually a very good question. Admittedly I cannot be bothered with iTunes. Still, as some of those tracks are owned by major labels I have some doubt as to whether or not they would actually license them out for something as cheesy looking as that comp. Having said that, stranger things have certainly happened.
