The great & influential Shadow Morton, who should need no introduction here, has passed on. His name seemed to have so much mystery behind it when I was a teenager. He came up the tough way, through the system @ the Brill Building.

I once asked Arthur Kane what working with Morton was like :
"A nice guy, easy to get along with - both he & the band had a similar sound in mind & we worked well together".

Wasn't there a Shangri-lahs revival for awhile around when the Dolls were the new thing? I have to admit I've never really understood the appeal of much of those Red Bird and girl group recordings (I do like the Cookies a lot though), but sorry when I read Morton had died on a ticker at the bottom of some news channel the other day... you think of some of these people as being very much cult figures that most people have no knowledge of and then when they pass they're suddenly written about everywhere.

Whitney Houston gets weeks of full news coverage and Shadow Morton gets a mention on a ticker...What a joke! :%:

Bless your Soul, George "Shadow" Morton rest in peace ... The Leader of The Pack ... now he's gone.
Thanks for bringing "us" 60's guys The Shangri-Las ... ha hah they had me glued to the TV when I was a lad.
Man, what tough Chicks!!! Also wrote "Give Him A Great Big Kiss" "Remember (Walking In The Sand) and "I Can Never Go Home Anymore" for the girls, plus cowrote Leader of The Pack with Jeff Barry and Ellie Grenwich.
Yes I still listen to the girls and digg them even more.
