Glenn Frey six feet under

I always hated the Eagles, David Bowie, and whatever I heard by Mott the Hoople.

I don't care if I missed a semi-decent album cut here and there. No interest. I'd rather listen to Flagrante and Teicher or whatever the hell their name was.

Sorry, but the '70s sucked. Not even punk rock could save that terribly dark, soulless, lifeless decade of endless nothingness.

Oh, what a tragic decade. Fortunately succor & solace were readily to hand, generously residing within the warm embrace of repeated spins of your beloved E.L.O.

The best thing about the '70s was the re-discovery of '60s garage sounds. And that goes for every decade since, as well.

Good to learn about Clarence Reid's extensive background as a songwriter and singer. I'm so out of it, I only knew about his "Blowfly" persona.

Just found out that Glenn sang backup and played acoustic guitar on Bob Seger's Ramblin' Gamblin' Man.

Heard a rebroadcast of a Glenn Frey interview with Tavis Smiley (weekly NPR talk show) - only heard the first 10-15 minutes but not only did Frey mention the Bob Seger recordings, he mentioned the Mushrooms, Four Of Us (he was in that band after they made the 45s), and the Mama Cats who he said his girlfriend was a member.....

didn't know he drummed in Freddy Fingers Lee's band (Upper Hand / The Last 1985...), that must've been a lot of fun for sure.... I can't drive is top drawer! (nice rip-outs, btw)

I HATE the Eagles, I respect Bowie, but Mott have CLASS! All their 45s are hilarious! One of the few pre 77 punk groups I still can listen to!

Mott vs. Eagles... I'd have to go with Mott, but in truth I have a best of for them and only the first eponymous LP for Eagles. Hate is too strong a word, more like almost complete indifference, or like Seven Of Nine might say "Glenn Frey is irrelevant"? Now Gene Clark I can get worked up about, his music grows and grows on me over the years until it's become indispensable up to his demos and last sessions, very rare. So it's not a country-rock bias. The Eagles' cut of Train Leaves Here This Morning is a limp noodle next to the Dillard And Clark Expedition original.

The 70s... I think the 60s sides of Bowie and Marc Bolan already said it well before the 70s arrived. Tell me why Bolan's Third Degree single on Decca isn't equal to everything else he ever recorded combined? I'll back Slade over most of the other big names with maybe one double A side for Sweet (making them the 70s equivalent of Freddie & the Dreamers). By the 70s people knew what they were doing, i.e. a formula (Kiss army?), spread out over an entire decade. Excitement mostly feigned, new kids assumed it was expected of them from watching older siblings? Thank God for The Ramones, Devo and Television, Gang Of Four, Joy Division or Buzzcocks, and other more local scene know nothings doing it 'all wrong' in the late 70s. We were all soooooooo sick of the bloody Eagles and other cocaine fueled mega formula industry product (even if I did wear a Styx Grand Illusion shirt).
