I'm a longtime lurker, posting for the first time on this site. I’m trying to identify the group behind a blank 7” red-black Audiodisc acetate I found recently. I’ve transcribed some of the lyrics and hope somebody recognizes them. The singer sounds sort of like Eric Burdon.

The best song plays like a 60s garage version of “Can’t Stand Losing You” by the Police with the singer bemoaning an impending divorce with his wife.

“1951’s the year your mother brought you forth,
And since that time you’ve made me feel I’m better off in court.

Your love is like a rusty nail; it digs into my heart.
You played it cool; you ruined my life, and now you’re busting out.”

The last line:

“It hurts inside; thanks for the ride; I think I’ll kill myself… [scream]”

In the song on the other side, the singer addresses a girl who used to snub him.

“Now that you want me, well it’s my turn to say:
Please leave,
Please leave,
Please leave.”

A good scream or two in this one as well.

I’m thinking it’s late 60’s to early 70’s based on the 1951 reference. Thought it might be The Rogues “Plan My Destiny/You’ll Never Know,” which I’ve never heard.

Thanks for your help. Is it okay to store these acetates in poly-lined paper sleeves?

It would be a lot easier to identify it if you put up a song file. Stick some silent spots in it if you're worried about it getting bootlegged.

Thanks Frantic and MopTopMike. Unfortunately I'm unable to render a sound file at this time. I'm one of these poor shlubs who relies on library computers. It does help to know it's not The Rogues. Out of the few Audiodisc acetates listed in the Barry Wickham guide, that was the only one that sounded like a possible match.

Someone put that song on a CD for me a few months back, so it is known. Unfortunately the CD didn't come with any track list, plus it's lost in my car somewhere. I will send a link to this thread to him and hopefully the answer will come soon.
