yeah, Alec's helping out with that a bit. Too many bands that I have full cds by and not enough obscurities for me.

A couple of interesting rare tracks here for die-hards like me.
Got most of the rest of it sometime last Century. Not sure
what demographic market this is serving...libraries maybe?

This comp does definitely lacks focus. Would had been a killer set if 3 discs was split simular to old Rhino LA box:
Disc 1 - Sunset Strip heroes
Disc 2 - Garage obscurities
Disc 3 - Studio production stuff like Beach Boys, Association, Curt B etc.etc.

Instead it looks like that someone got 100 tracks and threw it in random order.

They most definitely will do SF set sometime after that.

Why are groups who were not from or based in LA included on this comp?

Because they still can have "The Sound Of Los Angeles", maybe.

Looks like a cool artefact, won't buy it, but some people will have fun with such a set. They obviously found a site where they could download as many free fonts as possible and went a little bit over board with that..

I didn't think I needed this, but I'm glad I bought it. Excellent sound quality (for the most part) , a superb booklet with great track by track liner notes, and a very nice 'flow'. At under £20 it's a bargain, and these days I prefer comps like this over a £40 vinyl comp with only a third of the songs.

Agreed. I don’t understand why anyone on this forum wouldn’t want to own this. I don’t agree with all the selections and there are obvious omissions but there’s more than enough of interest to entertain any of us.

Alec did the mastering on this, and Bosshoss helped out with some of his excellent dubs for a couple of the ultra-rare tracks. Unfortunately, some of the sources the compiler wanted were provided only as mp3s.

They didn't even credited Bosshoss for that in booklet (but yet credited Randy Holden who have zero music on this set - go figure). There's only 4 mp3 sourced tracks and all of them were unreleased.

I'm not home at the moment, but is really Randy Holden credited, or is he just mentioned in the thank you list? There's a difference. And maybe Mark didn't wish to be credited?

Alec asked for Mark to be credited but as it was not his project he had no control over the booklet etc.

this is a problem with all Grapefruit comps, though I still do enjoy them
