I have hundreds of unpublished 35 mm b&w negatives from NYC in the 1960s that I bought at a flea market years ago. I don't know who the photographer was, he was an amateur but took quality photos. Plenty of photos of jazz musicians and soul singers plus lots of street scenes. I've posted a few on my site: http://www.garagehangover.com/newyorkphotos/

I've been approached to sell some, but I have no idea how to price these. I know negatives usually don't sell for much individually, and depend a lot on celebrity status, but how about for a collection? Any ideas on worth?

I already understand that owning the negatives does not mean ownership of the rights to the images.

I would guess almost hopeless to value unless offered by an auction house? I have a few dozen also, although of much historical worth, difficult to put a value on. Though I would pay quite a lot myself for the right genre, surely your lot would have a market. At least I think it should!

i buy quite a lot of 1950s/1960s negatives, it's nowhere as expensive as collecting garage 45s. it's not uncommon to win a negative for about 5$. i've seen some go for as much as 60$ or 70$ if they had nude/risque content. street scenes often go for 15$ up.
