Jeff Beck, checking out

RIP Jeff. A true innovator and a marked contrast to his predecessor in the Yardbirds. Blues v Rock'n'Roll, a familiar source of creative tension in the sixties. Think Brian Jones v Keith Richard, for example.

For me, the finest of many of Jeff's recorded performances is his playing on 'I Ain't Done Wrong'. Musical equivalent to a prolonged orgasm.

I'm speechless...I've been a fan since 1965. Unlike most "rock" guitarists, Jeff never stopped learning and growing in his playing.
Even his few unappealing projects (much of Loud Hailer for me) still featured some stellar Jeff Beck guitar. R.I.P. old friend.

I always loved his comment on the first solo LP for "You Shook Me" (and the performance too, of course).
"Last note of song is my guitar being sick well so would you be if I smashed your guts for 2:28."

There are of course multiple videos out there of Beck, but I've always been blown away by this live clip of the Yardbirds doing "I'm a Man" on Shindig - as the credits roll Beck is doing all sorts of crazy stuff with his guitar:
