The article mentions the alternate take of "Purple". When I first contacted Steve Morgen in the late 80s, he had told me about the other version of that song, which he thought was much better than the one used. He mentioned not having a copy of it (only having the "living room jams" used by Sunbeam).
During the Parallel World days, we were trying to work with Steve to do a legit reissue of the album. MCA/Universal confirmed they had the tapes in the vault, but were impossible to work with. He asked if as the artist he could have a copy of the tape for himself. They responded by offering him 5,000 cassettes for $10,000. Some much for that. (We later had the thought of rerecording the album with Steve backed by a current band we knew, but that never came to fruition.)
So I do wonder not only where the additional music came from, but how they obtained the rights to reissued this legitimately. Did they pay Universal a large licensing fee?
