Nitty-Gritty or VPI cleaner?

I had a low end Nitty Gritty cleaner , their second cheapest , all manual . The cleaning / vacuum action was good , but doing everything by hand was a bit tedious . Other negatives - the turntable is rather small , works okay for 45's not so good for lp's . There is not enough ventilation in the casing , so the motor heats up fast , you can only clean a few records at one time . Nowadays I have a VPI 17 which I bought used for half the list price . It works very good . Negatives - you need to buy a 45 adaptor kit , if you want to clean singles . Which means you have to switch the brush and the suction tube everytime you switch from 7" to 12"

I have had a Nitty Gritty for years and it has served me well. Even as a most basic cleaner it does far better than the sink method. I only go under the sink for the dirtiest of records… our tap is loaded with minerals.

I would like to move up to a VPI eventually.

I have the VPI 16.5. It works great.
Yeah, the VPI is the way to go. Nitty gritty freaks me out the way that LPs hang over the side while being cleaned. I do not trust that voodoo.
Note (learn from my pain) if you are going to close the dust cover, put the suction tube over the platter, not in the rest position, as it will snap off and then you have to buy another. Also, my cats like the material that the drain tube is made of and have chewed it into a soaker hose (frown).
I also get the vibe that these are not wildly cleanable inside so, as you are likely looking at a finite lifespan, you might be better of buying new one than a used one. The used ones do not tend to go for much less anyway.
