P.F. Sloan RIP

For me this is really sad news. Over the last years my esteem for P.F. Sloan was constantly growing. His memoirs "What's Exactly The Matter With Me?", which came out last year, was one of the most moving books on music I ever read. I love his music from the Fantastic Baggys up to the amazing singer/songwriter album "Raised On Records", and most of the music he was involved in like the great Canadian Mersey beat album "The Black Plague" by Terry Black. His music and songwriting was extremely soulful and sincere. To me he became a mythical figure still alive. If I would have seen him on stage I would probably not have believed my eyes. Although until yesterday I still hoped to get the chance to see him once... The story of his life is an absolute tragedy, similar to Emitt Rhodes' (more or less caused by the same people= Dunhill Records), but I hope in the end he found his peace by telling his story and receiving much respect and loving response from a lot of people. A truly great artist. R.I.P.

one of the many entertaining and thrilling stories he tells in his book:

Phil was a musical hero of mine and one of the best songwriters of his generation.
He was also vastly underrated as a singer and guitarist, and probably always will
be. I was fortunate to have met him and seen him perform in this Century, and
he was very gracious but still very paranoid about the way he had been treated
by the music industry. If you read his autobiography, you will realize that he had
every right to feel threatened. They really were out to do him wrong, and they did.
