When was the last time that a previously unknown released (as opposed to one-of-a-kind demo acetate) '60s U.S. teenbeat 45 uncovered ?
Specifically, one that would rate at least a 6 by the TBM standards. Can anybody pinpoint the approx. date and artist/record that was
unearthed ? Were there any in the past decade ? Any since the start of the new century ?

Wasn't the Dirt Merchants 45 unknown at the time it was discovered about 5 years ago? It's a 2 sided 6. Another one that was unknown is the Hotbeats, but it may be at least 10 years since that was unearthed.
Other possibilities, all at least 6 rated ...

The Jazzmasters - Walkin'
Raevins - The Edge Of Time
Paupers - Shining Light / Honey Bee

It's pretty hard to know what is unknown, unless you know everything and everybody.

To clarify - by 'unknown,' I meant unknown to the hardest of the hard core fanatics, the TBM fans, the '60s teenbeat historians, those that frequent this site, etc. There will be one to add to this list in the very near future - a 1966 raga-rock inspired winner that is known by a few (including at least one member of this group) but is generally unknown to most of the collecting world and the band name has remained a mystery. Keep your eyes posted here...

The Dirt Merchants was "unearthed" (clank:BOOM) circa 2005/6. No one that I knew had ever heard of the songs before. The first copy was offered on ebay; I lost out to Toddophonic Todd.

Ditto for the Hotbeats 45. Dealer Chris C. from Long Island brought the first known copy to the Allentown all 45rpm record show, this was about 15 years ago as well. He spun it for a couple of like-minded fiends after I heard both sides, and the bidding frenzy began. I managed to come away the victor, however, upon returning home and spinning it I found the copy suffered from groove distortion in the high volume peak areas, and during the guitar break. I ended up trading it away to one of the guys who competed for the copy. Until Jason L. managed to purchase three unplayed copies (one is finally in the collection), all of the Hotbeats 45s that have turned up in the wild, offered on ebay, etc. suffered from groove distortion to varying degrees. The unplayed copies play perfectly.

The Jazzmasters 45 was a deaf buy (took a chance on it without hearing it) from a doo-wop specialist dealer, my notes say I bought it in 2002.
Another collector who posts here occasionally found a copy in a junk shop(?) for peanuts a decade ago or more. When Bill N. found the D&C label owner, he had quantity on the Oscar Five, the Continentals, the Panthers (on the D&C label but pressed in Canada) and maybe 5 copies of the Chancellors. There were no Jazzmasters 45s, Bill said the label owner never even mentioned the record, he must've totally forgotten about it.Based upon that, I bought the copy, and lucky me, bonafide killer!

The most recent totally unknown "killer" (rated at least a 6) is an unknown 45 that a dealer recently auctioned by St. Christopher's Children. Both sides are stellar. Seems to be a NorCal location. Lots of 45s that I never heard of have surfaced since publication of TBM, but hardly any rate higher than a 5 at best after we voted on each. The unreleased acetate sides sometimes reach the 6 rating plateau. As mentioned previously, the Society acetate songs discovered a couple years ago have rated higher.

Speaking of recent Nor-Cal finds. A previously known semi-moody monster by BLUE LITE CONSPIRACY Her Heart Said No (on the Big Beat comp You Got Yours! East Bay Garage 1965-1967) has turned up on a previously unknown 45. 1st, one copy turned up, then another 2. Turns out the band was actually the BLUE LIGHT CONSPIRACY. 100 copies were pressed and all of them have plain white labels and nothing else. The band couldn't afford the extra 10 bucks to add a label as they had to beg borrow & steal the money for the initial recording and pressing. I give it a 5 maybe 6. It's a grower that's for sure. a copy now resides in Australia. :tiphat:

I’d give it maybe a 7 just for the guitar

Out of curiosity, did you guys vote on the Stan Meredith & the Shadows 45? I realize it wouldn't rate a 6 or better but am curious how it graded out.

Here is a little known release. Rogues 5 from Lorain Ohio. Although it is listed in TMB, but not rated. Wonder what everyone would rate this one? I don't know of any other copies other then the one that Moptop must have logged for TBM. Anyone else have a copy or know of one.

Rogues 5 - Oh So Fine

Thumbs up.

I would give it a 5 (out of 10) on the garage-o-meter scale. That makes it above average.
