Ravi Shankar dies at 92

Nor the Electric Flag I suppose too.

Also a major influence on John Coltrane and many other jazz giants. In fact I think I remember McGuinn crediting his guitar solo on Eight Miles High to listening to lots of Coltrane, which makes it even more fascinating listening to realize it's Shankar through Coltrane into McGuinn's Beatle inspired Rickenbacker... layers on a musical onion.

I still love that Alice in Wonderland BBC video released on DVD a couple of years ago with the Shankar soundtrack and bonus feature on the recording of it! Get it if you haven't already and have any taste for these kinds of exploratory sounds...

Wish I had a time machine to that afternoon in Monterey.

I read an interview with Crosby where he said that while they we're touring they had a tape with Coltranes "India" on one side and a Ravi record on the other. Bloomfield has stated that he listened to alot of Coltrane and Ravi pre-East-West.

Have to watch Ravis at Monterey Pop now.
