RIP Spencer Davis

It was almost impossible to see any teen band in 1966 or 1967 that didn't include at least one Spencer Davis track in their set. 3 radio friendly sides that fit in very well with any teen dance club of the time.

Also very popular in SE Asia and Hong Kong. In my collection I've got an instrumental version of 'Gimme Good Loving' by Charlie & The Boys (Singapore), an English vocal version by The Falcons (Malaysia) and a Malay version by Ismail Haron & The Guys (Singapore). I haven't got it, but The Blue Star Sisters of Hong Kong recorded 'Keep On Running' and I have the original of that song on a pirate EP that also features Shirley Nair & The Silverstrings (Singapore). Neither band is named, just their photographs

RIP the professor !

The Steve Winwood era stuff obviously gets the most attention, but the later more psychedelic material shouldn’t be overlooked.

Gimme Some Lovin was the high energy standout for me. It was the only Spencer Davis track that really caught my ear at the time when it was in the charts. The others I came to appreciate over time.

Gimme Some Lovin' was played to death on Dutch radio and is now regularly played on the classic rock stations. They killed the song for me, I'd much rather listen to High Time which hasn't been over exposed :(

I couldn't find any session info on the net, however after watching many live performances of Keep On Running my best guess is that Winwood played the fuzz lead. :konfuzed:

I don't think they used any session musicians outside of posthumous overdubs of organ (and strings) on some tracks for USA LP releases. Their sound is very sparse
