Now that the book is finally out, I figured I'd set up a place / thread for contributions, comments and criticisms, instead of placing your posts within the older threads.

I'm pleased with the quality of the book - I wanted a durable, thicker soft cover than I usually find on these sort of reference oriented, perfect bound books. It should hold up well with your repeated flip-thru's over the upcoming years. Of course, you'll find typos and other editorial gaffs while leafing thru the contents. As explained prior to wrapping the project, my MS software program decided to go kablooey and that prevented finishing the final run-thru after I incorporated a couple dozen 45s to the discography at last minute. Rather than taking more time and work required to reconfigure everything in the page layout with a different software package, I just decided to wing it, as-is.

There will be no more Teenbeat Mayhem books in the future; however, I'm seriously contemplating the idea of publishing a smaller 'zine, with group profiles, collector profiles, stories, and updated info to incorporate in both books. If I can cajole some help!

That stated, feel free to add your own perspective, two cents, etc. for Beyond Teenbeat Mayhem in this thread.

That sounds like a smashing idea to me! Can't contribute much except the odd photo here and there & proof reading if need be. So if you feel up to it I'll do my best to push the fanzine up here.

Here are some irksome A To Z U.S Discography gaffs in BTBM:

* Alan Burn - In his overhauled listing from TBM, the first 45 in the discography has a backing credit error. The book credits the Ushers when it should show as the Jaguars. Alan Burn hired different teen combos to back him on his locally issued 45s.

* Paatz - the group entry is correctly updated but the background shading is barely visible, meaning this entry is an updated / overhauled entry from the TBM listing (added a 2nd 45 that was not known prior to TBM getting printed). I wanted to ensure any text printed on a shaded background would appear legible, so I used a 10% shading gradient. Sometimes, due to the nature of printing, the shading may not appear as dark as it should. i checked my proof and it appears correctly.

* The Scavengers updated entry should have two separate entries (this is where the damn MS software going kablooey messed things up). The Scavengers 45 on the Pharaoh label is correct as listed.

The Skavengers 45 on the Mayn label is not from the group noted in that entry. The Mayn label group were from the towns of Gardner and Dresden, Maine. This should have been listed alone, not combined with the above Scavengers.

In the Worldwide A to Z:

* Canada -
Action - 1st 45 release date missing, should show as May'66

Europe -
* Spencer Davis Group "Time Seller" 45 is missing the [PS] notation.

I actually enjoy these typos and other editorial gaffs. It keeps us busy and entertained, as do the typos etc on the original record labels themselves.

I got mine and like it also, but I did notice that my none of my acetates(7 inch and 10 inch) did not make it anywhere in the book. Not even in the NO Dice section.

review of 45s I'm talking about:

I ain't gonna eat my heart out anymore on 45rpm 7inch
It's true we're though 45rpm 7inch.

Promises Promises on 10inch 45rpm
Original Cast 4 songs on 10inch 45rpm.

I'm intrigued by amazing facts such as the cabinet ratings for "Witness People" by The Fountain Of Youth. It scored the following ratings on the garage-o-meter

9 ( 1 vote)
8 (1 vote)
5 (1 vote)
4 (2 votes)
3 (2 votes)
2 (1 vote)
1 (1 vote)

This one also scored a vote spread between 1 thru 9

Not sure what I rated them, but both would have been at the low end of the scale. I guess the voters who are into heavy psych sludge sounds might give high ratings but neither song sounds like 60s garage to me.

In TBM page 248 there are two acetates listed with targets for both sides indicating that audio was unavailable which I take as not heard. Therefore, how can it be listed not knowing what it sounds like? Please explain as I'm confused here.

Mike...promised you details on the Beachnuts reunion....

Beachnuts will be playing at the Wonder Bar, 9 p.m., Jan. 16, 2016 Asbury Park, NJ, as part of the Light of Day WinterFest 2016, celebrating "Sweet Little 16" in the Global Battle against Parkinson's Disease. Tickets available through Ticketmaster.com starting 12 p.m. ET, Oct. 31, 2015. We'll be playing "Iconoclastic Life" and "Nature's Company" for sure!

The Beachnuts love TBM!

This thread isn't about TBM, it is for discussion and commentary on the new book.

I've mentioned this before - when I started compiling data for TBM back in 1992, I was only concerned with documentation. As time went on, I was able to trade songs with other collectors. Greg from Duluth was my #1 key trade-man, we ended up doing 43 cassette trade "swaps". When traveling to visit other collectors, there simply wasn't enough time during my visits to make recordings - my focus was data transcription.

I did audition unfamiliar songs while traversing across the USA and would make a quick note of it (a yes or no) as to if the 45 / acetate was of the specific sound to make it a worthy entry in the book. There was no intent or effort to write down a series of descriptives. That concept did not occur until other collectors asked for ratings and descriptions circa 2004.

Thus, the result of the target icon (circle in BTBM) that denotes a song unavailable (I do not have it archived) for a detailed description and rating. It does not mean that I have not heard it - I have. Several collectors have been kind enough to submit songs noted by the target icon in TBM, and those have been considered for the new book accordingly.

it starts very horrible but gets better. still, many people have a zero tolerance policy with such "later" sounds. the 8 and 9 must have been a typo:yup:. i think it's rather ok, 2 to 3. sounds like a mix of dylan and the monkees.
