Soothsayers pic sleeve

I think I read on Popsike that only one has turned up. I have the scan with autographs (?) on it:

You should not "read" anything on popsike, use the old g45 links! ;)

Distinctly recall at least one other appearing on eBay. Wish Modboy had been here to keep his rather good (almost faultless) tally of eBay appearances.

I see! Then I won't anymore :)

The "Black Nor Blue" sleeve is shown in TBM in case you haven't checked it out.

From what I heard a huge quantity - 1000 or probably more - of the common Soothsayers record with sleeve was bought by a KC record store in the 1980s. From there they were fanned out over the years.

There are two versions of the "I don't know" sleeve. Both seem to be originals.

Given the large quantity find, I'd be curious to know how many copies were pressed overall. Do the two versions of the sleeve constitute 2 separate pressings?

I assume they were done at different places but the pressing on the common Soothsayers is incredible flimsy. More so than the only other thing I have on the label, "young aristocracy".

Thanks for the hi-res scan Boss. both their 45s are fantastic. I managed to get the Black Nor Blue 45 for relatively cheap. I take it, its the sleeve that is rare, not the record?

I'm guessing that Black Nor Blue sleeve was not supposed to look like that, that it was a faulty print run with the picture askew and that they were pissed off about this and discarded the run of sleeves. Because they look like a pretty meticulous crew

The sleeve is 2 known copies, so it's "insert expletive" rare. The record is pretty rare, I'm just going to guess at $250 for m- and 20-30 known copies. Without any evidence, except for the difficulty I had obtaining my copy. It's in a different league compared to "Please Don't Be Mad" in terms of rarity.

But, I see a vg copy sold on eBay for $57. That was a bargain, I think.

Really? I automatically assumed that it was an attempt to make something similar to Mr. Tambourine Man or Rubber Soul...

I just turned up a beautiful copy of this sleeve. It arrived in the house today and it's just this side on NM. So unless anymore have shown up in the interim, this should make number 3 of known copies.

One of the Soothsayers recalled that the sleeve for the 2nd 45 was subject to accidental water damage not long after the record came out. Perhaps only a 20 or 25 count box of copies with the sleeve made it to the public before the rest were water damaged. They managed to salvage a few boxes of the 45s.
