I feel I've been cluttering up the Lunar System topic with occasional late night Bubble Dourbon triggered ramblings so I'll use this post to provide updates on certain tweaks I'll be attempting. Might prove to be of interest and perhaps even utility to some readers so why not? Certainly beats hijacking the LS thread.

Follows an overview of some of the equipment I'll be experimenting with. This post references the in house system which is just for CD's. It includes a Rega amp & pre-amp with Chord Company interconnects. These are 15, maybe 20 years young. This pairing provides more than enough power to get the speakers pulsating. The CD player is a bog standard Denon recently purchased for $500 to replace the Rega CD player which went to hi-fi heaven, or perhaps purgatory, earlier this year after serving admirably alongside its brethen. Speakers are Pro - Ac tablet 2000 signature, same early 00's vintage as the Rega gear, set up on the indispensable speaker stands which are loaded with audiophile grade sand in the legs to lend solidity. Which it most certainly does. The Pro Ac 2000's are very impressive speakers, delivering pinpoint imaging and commendable range. Details on the speakers performance will be analysed post system tweaks. Speaker wire, I hesitate to call it cable is Mapleshade Golden Helix V2 which rule. Truly, they do. Lightning fast, neutral to perhaps just a bit open & bright, clean, sparkling, transparent, capable of delivering low end information at near Stygian depths as required / compelled to by the signal channelled. A PS audio line conditioner provides cleaned up electric to the Mapleshade power strip. The PS is connected to a standard power strip which reaches the nearest wall outlet in my 90 year old house. The electrician may well be receiving a call to tidy up some of the in - wall wiring, as the house is an amalgam of minimally 7 different construction expansions effected over the years since it was a Roaring Twenties summer cabin for two seasonally in attendance spinsters. There's some pretty scary wiring in the basement, that is for certain. I'd like to think that racking the system in the fireplace produces a somewhat hotter sound which is pretty cool. Additionally this placement helps keeps the interconnects out of harms way, so its more than just a placebo effect.

The first tweak will be applying TC graphene to the bare ends of the speaker wire, both at the amp & the Pro-Acs. Then I'll treat the pins of the RCA cables, again both ends. When some fo.Q tape arrives I'll wrap the plugs, shields, IEC connectors, etc... And its a definite that I'll buy another MC5 line conditioner to fine tune the current on the line the PS is plugged into. I'm confident that these actions will result in improved performance.

Follows a few pics to give a sense of the project.

So much potential! Fo.Q on the CD tray is a must. Test a little TC on the outside of the Mapleshade cable, both ends. Only needs to be ultra-thin - spread with an almost dry brush. TC on fo.Q would be even better, but might use a lot of resources.

I like the CD drawer idea, I'm rarin' to rekindle this old time system up as I know tweaks deliver. The mapleshade cable swap was MAJOR!

Yes, I'll tread lightly, good to know a little bit goes a long way, thanks for the dry tip !

TC just applied to RCA pins / MC.05 blades / speaker wire terminations. I let it set for 20 minutes, plugged the RCA's into the amp / pre amp / CD player and attached the speaker wire.

Within 5 seconds of playback I knew that something had changed. The music was more forward into the room, ahead of the speakers it seemed, if that makes any sense. Also the presence was bigger, wider, more in your face perhaps. There appeared to be more air in the vocals. In all the system sounded demonstrably different, and almost a bit off putting, like the music was taking up more space in the room. I left the disc playing , turned down the volume and I'll let it break in or warm up or adjust for a few hours.IMG_3294.JPGIMG_3295.JPGIMG_3296.JPGIMG_3297.jpgIMG_3298.jpg

One thing for certain, the TC had an immediate effect. It will be interesting to compare before & after both with & without the ( yet to arrive ) TA - 32 fo.Q tape.

A few before & after pics, note the pins are gold in the "group photo" and dull graphene gray post application. As would be expected.

Sounds like the rusty gates have begun to creak open, and the first rays of dawn are beginning to appear. Soon the gates will be flung wide open and the glorious Light will burst forth and fill the room.

Playback through the speakers has gotten a bit unusual. A sound cloud has descended, a sort of sonic wet horse blanket effect over the speakers.

I suspect the speaker wire contact is the culprit, I may not have bridged / jumped the bi -amp enabled binding posts correctly.

I suspect your Denon is the culprit. I never liked Denon, not even when my hearing was much better. The TC could be bringing out the worst in it.

Sinners repent! The power of Christ compels you!

The problem was the speaker wire connection. Somehow it was not making proper contact between the upper & lower binding posts as can be seen in an above posted photo. Which is a bit weird as it worked fine when the pic was taken prior to disassembling the set up for treatment. My guess is that the TC treated end was not making contact with both posts equally, resulting in the problem w/ erratic playback. The bare ends of the wire just barely bridged the 1 1/2" gap between the two posts, resulting in ( possibly ? ) uneven contact of the treated portion of the cable and a bit of untreated wire further along on the cable closer to the insulation. This can be seen in the pic of the coiled wire below. I replaced the Mapleshade Golden Helix 2 wire with naim speaker wire and the sound is back to ( what appears to be ) better than before the TC application to the interconnect cables.

I did need to swap out the Chord Company Chrysalis cables on the CD player as one became damaged being removed from the back of the player. So no exact before and after analysis has been arrived at. Yet.

I ordered some Mapleshade copper ribbon bi-wire jumpers to connect the top & bottom binding posts on the Pro Ac speakers which allows for the speaker wire to be attached to the lower ( W = woofer ) post while communicating with the upper ( T = tweeter ) post. This will enable the wire to be bent into a "J" or hooked shape and fit securely to the bottom post while also feeding the top post. There is some interesting discussion & content on the Mapleshade website:

https://www.mapleshadestore.com/speakerwires.php

With the TC treated bare wire ends speaking to the jumper ribbons this ought to be revealing of any enhancement effected by the TC on the interconnects. Now I'm wondering if it would be appropriate to treat the bare copper wire leads on the naim cable?

Taped up the interconnects on the main reference system w/ fo.Q, well a first go at taping, the end of the RCA / XLR connectors and the exterior of the outlet plate. Awaiting another package of tape to attend to the MC.05's

IMG_3341.JPGIMG_3342.JPGIMG_3343.JPGIMG_3345.jpgIMG_3348.jpgNO TC yet, I'm going to listen to the system as is to establish a baseline of sorts to assess performance as each step is effected.

Integrated the copper ribbon jumpers to replace the stock brass plates that came with the speakers, immediate results here, a dynamite $40.00 tweak that could not be simpler to accomplish. Highs were instantly cleaner and more dynamic with essentially no smear or grain evident.

A few pics to detail these steps:

Mark, if you see this any recommendations as to optimal placement of CTops on the numerous points of contact amongst the Amps / TT / outlets / power conditioner / etc...

The base of the phantom mount seems an obvious choice as this is where the phono wire transits through. Any thoughts on whether it makes a difference on the speaker cables?

Attached find a bunch of pics to (possibly ) assist in developing the best course of action.

photo #1 - on every RCA and power plug
#2 - CTs on the side of the tonearm. All around the base of the tonearm where it contacts the tonearm mounting board.
#3 - CTs on the protruding silver/black tonearm base.
#4 - CTs anywhere you dare, the closer to the tonearm base/mounting board contact area, the better.
#5 - CT on both plugs, and above both plugs. CT on the actual fuse (cut and superglue a tiny piece crystal side down, without nanotape).
#6 - RT on and around all plugs. And important - cover the unused outlets (use plain RockeTape squares, stick with full nanotape).
#7 - CTs anywhere and everywhere. Crystal side down, with full nanotape.
#8 - CT on each RCA
#9 - CT on the side of the MC0.5, near the outlet. CTs On the outlet itself.
#10 - CT on top of the headshell. Of course I myself would go much further, but I don't advise you to do that.
