The Jets released two EPs of original instrumental music in 1965, but essentially broke up at the end of the following year. Guitarist Edward Tan then set up a new group using the old name, but with quite a different sound. In 1967, the band released its first EP, all covers. Their version of Eric Burdon and The Animals’ ‘When I was young’ is very good, whereas their version of the song ‘Fever’, made popular in the late 1950s by Peggy Lee, is just a bit whacky, but I like it. I am not sure if the band's arrangement is original or if they copped it off somebody else.

The band’s second and final EP has two originals penned by guitarist Roland Stephenson and drummer Ricky Tay (see the Paul RT and The Rocking Skippers thread). ‘Lonely time’ has a great guitar hook and is a strong favourite. ‘I want you’ is a more straight-ahead pop song, but a good one.

Finally, I have read that The Jets also provided the backing for Judy Lee on her EP with the Blue Star label. It doesn’t say that anywhere on the sleeve or label, but The Jets were also on Blue Star, so it could be true. Her version of ‘Mary Mary’ is my choice from that record. ‘It’s The Monkees, Jim, but not as we know it’.

Thanks once more to Bård.

I had one of those Batmobiles once! The bit on the front in the middle is a pop-out blade for cutting off toddlers' fingers and at the back is a missile launcher that aims straight for your eye. They don't make toys like that anymore
