Hey folks, there's batch of articles out now that i wrote about the the wild music and wild times of awesome Md. 60's punks Bobby J. & The Generations. Their crucial track "Lost In Time" is the best cut from the 1966/67 Dome label various artists l.p. Baltimore's Teenbeat A Go Go (and imho thee greatest Md. 60s punk track ever!)

A few quick notes on this: first, one of these articles is accompanied by a label shot of the Get Hip reissue instead of a shot of the o.g. label of the Bmore Teenbeat alb. Mighty Miriam Linna gave me some good natured flack for this, but that Get Hip label shot is included for two major reasons. First, i'm working on a stand alone piece about the Bmore Teenbeat alb; i'm saving any o.g. cover art or label shots for that. Also, the reissue is prominently mentioned and (as far as i know) no other Md. 60's teenbeat record from the Baltimore area has been in print for as long as that legit Get Hip reissue of Bmore's Teenbeat A Go Go. So, imho, the reissue is just as historically significant as the original pressing.

The photos i recently posted of Bobby J. & The Generations up here in the mojo Cools section could not be used for this series of articles. That was NOT my decision, that was the editorial dept. The wbesite Splice Today wont post images unless they are at least 1000 dpi (see my comment in Mojo Cools for info on why the photos there are on the small side)

Finally, does anyone here have any access to master tapes once owned by Link Wray and his brothers? To find out why this question is being asked within the context of Bobby J. & The Generations you'll just have to read these articles. Hope ya dig'em!

Cool read, thanks. What is splicetoday all about? Does it get a good readership?

1000 dpi is more than one needs for printing, let alone web use. Maybe 1000 pixels? One can always up the dpi or pixel count to get around this requirement. It will neither improve nor harm the image.

Splice Today is great, not too much else like it on the web imho. Their motto is "perspective over populism". So literally, if you've written about a topic that isn't covered hardly anywhere else and you're a decent writer they'll most likely publish whatever you send, unless it's fiction. They dont like fiction and poetry and stuff like that.

As far as readership goes, i'm not really sure how many folks read Splice Today on average. All's i know is that they've never bounced a check whenever they've paid me and they make alot off ads. If a site can make alot off ads that usually(?) means they have a big readership... honestly not sure, i work doin writing, not publishing.

Russ Smith, the guy who runs/owns Splice Today has been in the publishing biz for more than 50 years i think. He used to own both NY Press (a competitor of Village Voice, East Village Other, etc.) from the 70's to the 90's, and he ran/owned the Baltimore City Paper from the 80's until starting up Splice Today around 2009. I been working for them since 2012, at first just part time but i started doing writing more full time this year

So are you thinkin about tryna rustle up some paid writing gigs? dm me for more info cuz i think i already went way off the typical G45 topic a couple sentences ago, lol

And thanks for the praise, that means alot comin from the mystical svengali of Garage Hangover! Next up i'm putting together a series chronicling the nutzoid juvenile delinquent saga of The Rysing Suns, another wylde 'Baltimore's Teenbeat A Go Go' alum
