As requested by Mark Taylor, In no particular order i would like to present this list:

1. Squires-Going All The Way
2. The Remains- I Can't Get Away From You
3. The Cobras- Instant Heartache
4. The Rouges - Next Guy
5. Euphorias Id - Deceptions Ice
5. John Browns Bodies - Out of My Mind
6. Wasting My Time- The New Breed
7. Basement Walls- The What Four
8. My World is Upside Down - The Shames
9. The Missing Lynx - 13 Reasons *(unverified)
10.Beep Beep and The Roadrunners - True Love Knows
11. The Spectres - Depression
12. The Barbarians - Hey Little Bird

14. The Chosen Few - Get in On Life
15. The Psycopaths - Till The Stroke of Dawn
16. The Others - I Can't Stand This Love Goodbye
17. High Tensions -Poor Man
18. The Eastern Alliance _ Love Fades Away
19. The In-Vaders - By The Sea
20. The New Fugitives - That's Queer
21. The Shags - Don't Press Your Luck

A good case could be made for the b-sides of some of these records! The Cobras, Shames, Squires, are killer 2 siders! I might add this list is subject to change at any moment. Any side by the Remains could be on this list, but it didn't want it to be a Remains discography so I chose what I think is their best side. What do you think, Mark? Any serious omissions or unqualified inclusions? There are several rare sides I haven't heard in years so i didn't include them (Hotbeats, Frenchy and The Underground come to mind.)

I would jettison the Missing Lynx - my personal Retreds of your taste, Paul! ;)

These sides are superior:
Skip Ellis (either song, "Ice Cube Girl" or "Your Bad (Faithey's Theme)"
Bends "If It's All The Same To You"
Mott's Men "She is So Mean"
Mystic Five "It Doesn't Matter"
Shadows Four "Heart Of Wood"

The Retreds!!!!! .....slowly he turned.......step by step...

With the exception of Mott's Men, I had put all the others into serious consideration, and actually was going to list 25 to include them! I revisited the Skip Ellis and Shadows Four 45's on YouTube since I don't own them, and played all the rest Soundog and MopTop mentioned on 45's and just drew the line. Sounds like another list of 20 might be in order!!

Maybe it's Both of Us - The Ones is another killer 45. And rare as all hell I might add. How many forum members own it? I also think the album got an unfair reputation as being sub par. When Gearfab reissues it I'm sure it will get a more favorable evaluation.

Maybe it is time for a revised look @ "New England Teen Scene" in high quality sound (wink, wink) ?

Ned (in New England)
I think you're on to something, Ned! My Nor'Easter comps had such great records but crappy sound, hahahah! Especially the first one!

Great selection, Paul!
Another one to add (on the way to a top 50...)
The Insane "I Can't Prove It". Relentless...

Oh yeah...The Hotbeats has definitely got to be IN!
And I can prove it...by quoting the lyrics of the Hotbeats "Listen"

You don't think like me
You want to settle down
I want to run around
Don't try to tie me down
Come on listen you
You and me are thru
One girl's not enough
Even if she's tough
Don't try to tie me down
Aaaaaaaaaiiiiiieeeeeeeee!!!!

lead beak...
(twaaang-tikka-dakka-tikka-dakka-skreeee-skreeeeeek!
twaaark-twark-skreeeeek-tikka dakka-twannnngggg!)

You are in the past
Our love didn't last
Now you know that I
LIKE TO SEE GIRLS CRY!

That DOES have to be in there! That's a Hall of Fame description of the break, hahah!!! Maybe we should go to 50! I also listened to the Insane! It was tough narrowing it to 25. We'll have to pick an easier state like Alaska! At least there we could narrow it to a top 3!
Erik L Picked up a copy of Frenchy and the Underground Railroad recently, so perhaps we could impress upon him to post a clip!

I have the feeling that Mad Comics and Don Martin in particular have been an influence on you Mark :D
You're right Christian! I didn't even realise that myself until you pointed it out. But now I remember, it was a cartoon about a jack-hammer operator. I used to be a huge Mad (and Cracked and Sick) fan when I was 10-13 years old. It was the only way I could find out about contemporary USA culture. I just ate it up.
