Have the RSD-version on Real Groovy and love it to death, but then again I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to Kiwi-80s-stuff, going so far as to claim no other region produced a higher great-record-per-capita-quota than Aotearoa. What would you expect from the only country outside of the UK where The Fall entered the national charts? The regular Toy Love LP is so overproduced that it irons out just about any punky energy the band undeniably had. The live-double is much better proof to the massive impact that Knox and his pals had in their time, the band is tight and punchy ("Don't Catch Fire" nearly does so), Knox high wail is in good form and even the band's leftfield pop-leanings are v nicely presented ("Bedroom" w/ weird synth effects). Only disappointment: the booklet doesnt show that great shot of Knox' aluminum-foil-wrapped head from the "Stranded In Paradise"-book. Still, if you enjoyed the TL-singles: do get this!
Highly promising, but not yet received, is the new double-LP containing all the 45-tracks (remastered from original tapes) and the best of the '79 demos. If you bought it at Real Groovy (or begged the mail order guy long enough) you even got it with a free copy of "Swimming Pool" on 7".
