What was Jeff Beck's contribution to the Smoke's Utterly Simple?

I don't have the Ace/Big Beat CD Jeff Beck Shapes of Things 60's Sessions but one of the tracks on there is the Smoke's Utterly Simple. Great song and it's interesting Beck played on it - but if anyone has the liner notes or knows the story, how did Beck get involved with them (or with John's Children for that matter), and what was he contributing to that song?

I don't have the Shapes CD, but I have The Smoke Anthology 2 disc set also from Sanctuary/Castle and oddly the liners for it by David Wells don't even mention Beck. It has a bit about the Dave Mason written track being advertised for a single that never was released at the time.

Interesting, maybe he does that odd lick that comes after the verses, that sounds a little like an organ or flute.
