Does anyone know how many TV appearances the elevators did? I've only seen pictures from one show with the Easter Everywhere line-up, still wondering what song they did on that one...
Where The Action Is - Broadcast September 26, 1966. Lip synching "You're Gonna Miss Me" this is the infamous show where, when asked by Dick Clark who the head of the band was, Tommy Hall replied "we're all heads."
Sumpin' Else - Dallas, Tx. show, the band appeared live on March 25, 1966. The band did a second appearance on May 9.
Nope. The "pool show" was the lip-sync of 'You're Gonna Miss Me' on Dick Clark's 1966 'Where The Action Is' show that was filmed in L.A. The 'Sumpin' Else' appearance was apparently on a TV sound stage (photos & audio survive, but I don't believe that the video component still exists).
Yes, that is the Larry Kane Show in Houston. The "13" in the background refers to Channel 13, not the 13th Floor Elevators. You can see the same set in color here:
About 10 years ago I published a tome called "13th Floor Elevators -- The Complete Reference File". The title should be self-explanatory. Due to poor distribution we only sold 200 copies of it, and shortly after Paul Drummond appeared with his massive project in progress, so I retired from that particular scene. However, the old Reference File comes in handy every now and then -- and there is indeed a special section about TV appearances. As follows:
1. Larry Kane -- early on, February '66? A snapshot exists, nothing else
2-3. Dallas Sump n Else shows, March & May '66
4. Dick Clark WTAI (pool) September '66
5. Dick Clark American Bandstand (halloween/jungle) October '66
6. Larry Kane -- lipsynch "Don't Fall Down" -- brief interview audio portion exists May '67
7. Larry Kane -- promoting Easter Everywhere -- November '67
unconfirmed:
I. Swingtime in San Antonio -- Roky has mentioned appearing there
II. SF Bay Area Boat gig -- unclear whether actual footage exists, but a number of photos do, September '66
III. There may be one more Larry Kane appearance before #6, but it's unconfirmed. They were all lip-synch.
