A national rock radio station in Australia recently let listeners vote for what they thought were the greatest 100 Oz songs of all time. Number one turned out to be INXS 'Never Tear Us Apart'. Maybe no surprise that something like that would come out trumps, but what gets me is that there are none of the great 60s bands or singers in the list, not even The Easybeats. Also next to none of the great 70s or 80s bands. See the full list here:

This inspired me to make my own 100 list, just for fun. Don't take it too seriously. The number order means nothing and lots of missing songs are equally worthy. The only rule I set myself was a limit of two songs per artiste.

You must have been reading my mind.

More than once, I've listened to music and it occurred to me that it was an Australian band (I live in the states). I've often thought about making a posting and asking about other Australian band suggestions that would be unknown to me. I appreciate you making this listing.

And for the record, I discovered the Saints (I'm) Stranded on a 'blind-purchase.' In the early 80's (when 8-tracks were being phased out) there was a department store selling sealed 8-tracks for just a few dollars. In addition to 8-tracks of Badfinger, Kinks, Lou Reed, Roxy Music (and even the Sex Pistols) I also bought a few unknowns (to me). Because they were on Sire, I also picked up Tuff Darts and the Saints. Of all the artists mentioned, I played the (I'm Stranded) 8-track more than anything else!

Warning. Not everything on the list is garage or punk or even rock n roll. Slim Dusty, Chad Morgan, Eric Bogle and Lucky Starr are included for other reasons

Great list but no BUFFALO?! SACRILEGE!

I would certainly have these on my list (but none from theirs)

The Saints – Stranded

The Masters Apprentices – Buried And Dead

The Masters Apprentices – Undecided

The Victims – Television Addict

The Easybeats – Sorry

The Missing Links – Wild About You

The Missing Links – You’re Driving Me Insane

X – TV Cabaret Roll

The Elois – By My Side

It makes it hard when the Easybeats could easily have 10 or more on the list. Point taken about a maximum of 2 songs per artist.

I'll Make You Happy
For My Woman
Good Times
Friday On My Mind
Funny Feeling
Women
Come And See Her
A Very Special Man
She's So Fine
I Can See
Tryin' So Hard
Not In Love With You
Promised Things

And the Masters Apprentices could have a few more, on another list.
And the Chimney Sweeps should have at least one. Or two.

But it's a fun list! A few unfamiliar to me. Itchy Rat, Rocks, Exploding White Mice, Chad Morgan, GOD, Coloured Balls, CHAOS, Eric Bogle, Carson and a few more.

I never listened to (unlisted) Roland S Howard until this weekend on youtube. His Fender guitar tone was smoking hot. Like this, around the 6:50 time mark :

Lots of songs could be added on another list. Hey Myrtle! by the Chimney Sweeps is a great song, but deserves a spot merely for the title!

New Christs, Visitors, Sunny Boys also come to mind

Rowland S. Howard was great. Autoluminescent could have a spot
