Another calender year done (my new year began on Dec 22)....(almost) every year I start out a discussion of what were your favorite record (and other) acquistions in the past year......ebay, record shows, private sales, thrift shop, anonymous mail packages. Doesn't have to be garage, any thing that was worthy is fair game....is "vinyl" still "making a comeback"?

A few from me:
Last Knight - Shadow of Fear (orlyn)
Last Image - Leaving you (Polar)
Atilla and Huns - Mojo Cools (Beaux Arts)
Nomads - Thoughts of a Madman (replacing a copy I traded)
a couple missing New England 45s....not much (other than super rarities) left on the want list...
North Atlantic Invasion Force - Blue and Green Gown (Congressional)
Fumin Humans - Relative Distance (Angry Music Co)
and....waiting almost 30 years to upgrade -
Hazards - Tinted Green (Unicorn) the day I got this I retired my Ohio want list (although there are still 3-4 records I'm missing)

non garage
Young Mods - Gloria (Gangland)
Five Chances - Stranger I Love You (Finch)
Don Varner - Tear Stained Face (Quinvy)
Romona Collins - You've Been Cheating (Clark's)
Clarence Reid - I'm Your Yes Man (Wand)
Cruisers - Betty Ann (Coda)

I had prepared a list for this very topic, but hit a formatting problem. It was a good year and I'll have a full rundown once we get done with the holidays and I can mess with the glitch.

I only collect unreleased acetates and picked up several, including:

Jokers (USA/Destination group)
Dino, Desi & Billy
London Fog
Randy's World (complete LP)
Floyd & Jerry
Kama Sutra
Commonwealth
Cardboard Bachs
Cavemen (Rockford, IL)
Fourmations
Rascals (Ohio group)
Royal 4 (master tape, one cool garage tune)
Princemen (weak horn rock)
We The People (ballad compiled by Sundazed)
Aerodome
Naybour's Children

Lots of varied sounds but only a few true garage rock songs (London Fog, Fourmations) and a couple folk jangle tunes, my favorite (Commonwealth and Cardboard Bachs). Most were purchased unheard so there are some lesser songs but I always enjoy trying to locate the group regardless.

Nice list George. I'm the same when I retire a regional wantlist. Usually I do it after finding a key item, and a couple of items before actual completion. It saves a lot of frustration. Often the missing items just show up when you stop looking for them.

I didn't buy a lot this year - the above plus a dozen or so more common ones. I only buy Aussie 'Ugly Things' type 45s these days.

I would love to hear more about the story of how you stumbled on a clean copy of Green Fuz, eleelandc...to me that would have to be the find of the year.

A friend that runs a store in Dallas had a dude come in with it (the dude having bought it at a show back in the day I'd guess) and a bunch of Streisand records etc.... Selling his whole collection to the store... They paid him decent for it considering that he hadn't a clue that it was sought after.... I had bought a present for the friend and when I saw that he was checked in at the North Austin plaza(or whatever it is called now), I went and got the present and went over to his room.... conversationally they mentioned that they had it, I was impressed and bought it.... On the condition that the story go that I found it at a thrift for 25 cents.... Which did not last long....
While a gentleman never says the price, suffice it to say that I paid a chunk of change for it but not as much as it would have been if I had needed to PAY for it if you know what I mean... An easy "buddy deal" transaction....

My favourite finds are well documented in Thrift Store Treasures.

The best for me were (all at a dollar or less) :p :
The Brigands - (Would I Still Be) Her Big Man - Epic Stock copy
Thee Midniters - Jump, Jive and Harmonize/Looking Out A Window - Whittier
The Creation - Makin Time - Planet (USA press)
Stix "n' Stones - Good Guys Don't Wear White/All I Really Wanna Do - Impex (8 copies)
The Townsmen - Friends / You Left Me Crying - Albun (unknown to MTM Charleston WV garage)
Danny Zella and his Zell Rocks - Wicked Ruby - Fox

you can download some of my mixed bag-o-finds from WV, "Flung, Thrifted and Black" here

Have a good 45 hunting new year xx

decent finds for me this year include.

The Actioneers - No One Wants Me (Shane) - has been on 'wants' list for ages and it's always good when you find something you want

The Truths - Pending b/w Why - such a killer cheapo record.

Getting my IGL collection to above 8 45s (recently got Napolean I and his relatives, which I adore)

She - Outta Reach (Kent)

Kings Ransom - Shame (Integra) - been major want for years

getting a circa sleeve for my Rogues - You Better Look Now 45

getting more 45s for my dutch beat collection. e.g. Het, The Bumblebees, Nicky and The Shouts, The Marks etc (all killer)

The Golden Cups - This Bad Girl - been after this killer Jap 45 for years.

70s punk - The Deadbeats - kill the hippies (original danger house release)
The Cramps - Human Fly (Glo-In The Dark sleeve)
Protex - Don't Ring Me Up - got an original irish pressed 7" of this, great power pop 45
The Damned - got both New Rose and Neat Neat Neat both in pic sleeves and mint.

I also am happy cos I started my own record label and the 45s arrived the other day and look killer, they even smell killer..... the 45 will be released in February.

The usual fate of those living in the „wrong“ place: no finds in the wilds and few things to be declared as bargains, but still a good year on all collection fronts. Here’re my seven deadly sins selected from the stack:

Georgy and the boys are far from lazy on this one. The mental side to their calm (but great) other 45s.

The fuzz on this pounder has a certain electricity to it that makes my hair stand up. Unfortunately the record’s condition stands in inverse proportion to the quality of the sleeve-scan a kind forum soul provided.

Taking the Fenton quota to a level were a label-section could become less laughable. (Though without the Plagues of course it would be utterly useless)

Heigh-Ho, let’s go: crispy guitar lines, an organ player who knows how to make a noise and a cool break. Lovely!

Good company to the Es-Shades in the moody-garage-psych section of the collection.

If someone has a weak spot for „signed labels“, I’m ready to swap for your non-signed copy of this PA-classic.

Long-time fave after a school-buddy taped me his Gathering of the Tribes CD in the 80s.

Some personal highlights on the non-garage side of things, ranging from Swedish synth-punk to aussie power-pop.

Due to reasons, I almost stopped collecting. Nonetheless, I posted a want list here, not expecting much to happen of course. BUT: two kind souls gave me these (in exchange for appropriate dough):

The Story Tellers – "Cry With Me" (Trystero)
Changing Times – "Cry" (Mark VII)

Now, enough of that crying.

Have a nice 2013, freaks!

Another 35 or so attained this year for me, but not a single biggie. My most memorable record collecting experience of 2012 was actual shopping in real shops, as opposed to off eBay. There's some great secret/hidden record shops in London I discovered this year. There's good reason no one talks about them I've found :)

Alas garage 45s in the UK are thin on the ground.

Three decent garage hits I guess would be
The Front Line 'Got Love' on UK Atlantic (mint too)
The Missing Lynx 'Behind Locked Doors'
The Brogues 'Someday'

Bought a lot of records this year but within a certain price range.

Some of the 45s I enjoyed the most this year have been:

Vectors - Paisley haze (Delic)
The Penthouse (Hawk)
Attila -When (Attila)
Aztecs (Julian)
Taboos (La Salle)
D.Witherspoon and the Future (Frantic)

Non-garage numero uno want obtained:
Volt Rush Band!

And these two non-vinyl additions were a definitive high, from OliverB´s set sale:

As well as finally picking up UK beat again, Syn Grounded, both Attack 45s + a load of more common titles.

And at the tail-end of 2012, this made December for me. I´ve owned it before but sold it as a part of my 2008 collection breakdown crisis. Not rare, but I didn´t think I´d see the stamped sleeve anytime soon again and it feels damn good having it back where it belongs again. Great times & I hope you all have a spiffy 2013!

I'm relieved other people here have girls-toy-brushes littering their music environments as well ;-)
(But what's that frightening knife doing there?)

Yeah, with three daughters in the house there is a constant amount of "things" popping up everywhere!
(the knife came in handy to pry open OliverBs sturdy packaging)

I haven't really been buying garage 45s for some time, mostly due to financial reasons, but I did buy these two last month:

Swingin' Appoloes - Slow Down/Summertime Blues (White Cliffs)
Merrell & The Xiles - Tomorrow's Girl/When I Get Home (Glenn)

Both on the psychier side, not rare at all but hopefully they will bring back the exitement of buying 45s again! :)
