2012 year end roundup - records, etc you got in the past year

My New England want list is getting smaller and smaller! One of this years goals is to nail The Bonnevilles on Fleetwood. I don't figure I'll ever own The Shadows Four on Fleetwood!

Shadows 4 is two known copies? yeah, I don't hold out much hope for that one either! None of the band members had one, they never had any records, only acetates.

I don't either! I appreciate the disc that came from the Buckeye Compound! I'd be happy to just get the Bonnevilles. I can't remember the last time I've seen or heard of one up for sale. The Shilos and 5 PM are a couple I would like to reel in as well.

Thanks Westex

It had to be good with a name like Roy Hogsed.

Rhythm and Booze a big favourite here.

lovin' Arkansas Jane

The Chevelle V is number 1 for me, a long time since I heard it, wherever it went!

I'll get round to downloading it soon. I always love your mixed bags "o" sounds .

Muchly glad you enjoyed...

Roy Hogsed is a hoot and probably best known for his version of "Cocaine Blues" which was a huge juke hit for him. Most of his stuff is worth grabbing when/if seen.

I too love "Rhythm and Booze". Just so... I dunno... not dirty. I don't know what the word is...

I hope it´s still up Friday. Need to get me some primo beer & whiskey, sit down and enjoy it!

My wants list always get´s several additions after listening to your compilations. At least I don´t have to freak out concerning cut no. 31:)

Paul - for purely scientific research purposes, I would love to hear your personal opinion on the top 10 (or even top 20) New England '60s garage 45 rarities. As you're the top specialist "in the field"! Not just the ones you still don't have, but also the ones that you found, but were really hard to get.

Hahah! I appreciate the accolade there,Mark. I feel I'm a little fish in a mighty big pond when it comes to the NE rarities! I'll let it roll in my head for a minute before I post. I'll be interested in hearing other folks opinion as well. Moptop and I know a gentleman who is not part of this forum who has what may be the most complete NE garage collection I've ever seen. I think the best are probably not the total obscurities. Most of them would be fairly well known on this forum. I'll jot down a quick list

Desperation is the word that comes to my mind...

...and for my future sanity is there an easier way to download the whole thing? I'm doing one song at a time ... waiting 15 seconds... getting confused between downloading, finding it then sending to my Itunes, ...huh!! .. ....help...grrrrr... damn it... lol.... then getting lost in a song then forgetting where I was....

but again thanks... lovin'

"THE MOTIFS – Baby You Got It (Galactic 1003) Tuff Chicano soul with James Brown vibes from a tiny cowtown on the Texas/OK border. So good. Tight rhythm. Flip is a great slowie. Not super well known, but I’d say it’s easily one of the top 5 Texas Chicano 2-siders. Forum member ontheroadsouth had actually chased down the label owner (dead) and the group and found no records so it was figured a copy would have to be picked up at the rather big market price eventually. I remember taking my Buck Owens and Lost Chords 45s to check out and was directed to a box of new 45 arrivals. There in the last handful of 80s top 40 and 70s country was this lone 60s era release. It was truly an “Oh shit” moment. Five minutes later I was in the car sending ontheroadsouth a text/picture of the 45 sitting in the passenger seat to rub it in. Favorite find of the year? Easily."

Wow, not the kind of record expected to see on this site, have a clean copy of this filed away, remember it getting really big on the UK funk scene as Ian Wright had it in his top 10 a few years back, whatever genre you call it it's a solid slice of vinyl.

Fave garage newie of the year was a beyond generous gift from my best friend, the Other Kind on Mickay's, sounds like the greatest record the Action never recorded, the production on it is so punchy it's ridiculous, don't think it's well known in the least outside collecting circles so looking forward to seeing the reaction when play it over in Spain next week.

"No Time to Lend" / "Can't Wait Forever" - I'm sure it's the b-side you're talking about as the opening is very Marvelettes like "I'll Keep Holding On".

Mop Top had this as one of his spins back in '08, though in TBM he misspells the label as McKays!

Too crude to be the Action, but yeah, it's a great soul/garage. Nice best friend you got there Mr. R.

That was a bit like creeping inside a Pharaohs pyramid, entering a previously undiscovered tomb and finding treasures beyond my wildest dreams.

Why can I only "like" this one time?

And what is that.... like 10... 13... stories down? Some sort of botumless pit?

Actually laughed out loud when you kept teasing about opening the door to the "shrine". Please add about 2hrs worth of footage flipping through some of these boxes, will you?

Mark, what are the measurements of the shelving bins? I'd like to create something similar. The cheaper ones which can be bought, or the custom built shelves for records which I have seen are not deep enough to hold bins / cases, etc. I don't want 45s standing upright on end tucked in a square space, commonplace for most collectors for their storage of LPs.

I'm surprised that the vinyl vault can be opened that easily . I thought it would have a couple of locks , an eyescanner , etc .
Very interesting audio set up . Are these Martin Logan CLX speakers ?

I think a nice touch would be to install a series of doors to enter and exit by designed in the fashion of the 'Get Smart' opening credits. Also could you dub in the theme from 'One Step Beyond' in this video from proper thematic effect as you descend into this vault? Honestly, it's an impressive layout, Mark. I really like the 45 cabinets. I was going to try to design and build something similar a few years ago. Thanks for the tour!

I'm sure I saw doors to a lift (or elevator as some call them) as you were walking down the stairs.
