This post is both late and early, so apologies in advance.
This morning I visited a wholesale store run by a regional charity. The place is an ex-bus garage on a local industrial estate and it's an initial collection point for items which mainly come from house clearances. From here, the goods sent out to shops or shipped abroad. One needs time and patience when hunting . My main interest in visiting this store is clothes, primarily items bearing sacred names like Fred Perry, Ben Sherman, Levi Staprest, etc. However, there is always a fair quantity of records lying around; 78s, 45s and Long Plays. Most of the stuff is MOR and mainstream pop oldies which will probably end up in landfill. However, today I dug up unplayed copies of Eddie's Crowd 'Baby Don't Look Down' on CBS; The Rats 'Sack Of Woe' also on CBS; and a beat number on Columbia by The Golden Crusaders, who sound like a Showband. Good trade material.
When I got home, the postman had delivered a long time want: Mack Banks 'Be Boppin Daddy' on Fame Records out of Houston Mississippi. Pretty meaningless to most of you on this Forum, but it's the first genuine copy I've been offered in 40 years; the others all turned out to be cleverly doctored Mariano 'repros' (fakes).
Maybe saying my prayers last night was not such a bad idea.
