The end is nigh, at least for this 2nd pandemic year. And while it's quite astounding to follow the ongoing research in Professor BossHoss' STB laboratory (and even be able to benefit from it by the sheer generosity of our host) I must say I do miss the "zoomin' in on '60s garage sounds", the nerdy chatter on complex 45s swaps, lucky real-life finds and even plain online acquisitions. So bring on the year-end lists of your most precious purchases and proud additions to the collections. G45central cannot be just about crystals and ingredients, there has to be some vinyl reporting, too!
And most of all: Have a good, happy and healthy 2022 all of you! It's comforting to see this place is still here.

I just posted this list somewhere else. Some of it is even garage. I'm on a budget, so average cost here is about $3 each.

My favorite finds of 2021:

Electric Prunes: Ain't It Hard/Little Olive (Reprise)
Zombies: Don't Cry For Me/If It Don't Work Out (Date)

Eddie Cochran: Mean When I'm Mad (Liberty)
Al Lucas: Sweet Tooth For My Baby Ruth (Challenge)
Don Duncan: Somethin' Special (Venture)
Keith Courvale: Trapped Love (Dot)
Silva-Tones: Roses Are Blooming (Argo)
Roy Hogsed: The Snake Dance Boogie (Capitol)
Royal Rockers: Jet II (Bee)
Masonics: Mariner II (Interphon)
U.S. Six: The Push (Ascot)
Milan: Runnin' Wild (20th Century-Fox)

Kitchen Cinq: Good Lovin' (So Hard To Find) (Decca)
Tikis & Fabulons: Take A Look (Tower)
Smoke: Choose It (Uni)
Neal Ford & the Fanatics: Mary Wanna Marry Me (Hickory)
Bryan Peters: She's That Kind Of Girl (Ro-Do)
Phil Humphrey: Don't You Just Know It (Sassy)

Only 2 really worth mentioning for me this year - the Jackals and Groop acetates. Thanks to Mark P. and Tom F.
I did buy quite a lot of other '60s garage 45s this year but many of them were of the "tick the TBM box" variety, It's impossible these days for me to have a very exciting list, as I'm only missing 40 of the (vinyl) TBM top 2000. They don't come up for sale very often...:nope:

Not many acquisitions this year.

I did get the last 45 on Jerden that I didn't have:

Stefan Arngrim - You Got Style/Cloudy Day - Jerden 915 - December 1969

Stefan Arngrim was a 14 year old actor on the TV series Land Of The Giants. Both sides of the 45 say "From the ABC-TV series Land Of The Giants". However that is crossed out on both sides. Neither song was ever used on the show. Which probably explains why I've never seen another copy. It was apparently pulled. Jerden 916 has Stefan Arngrim singing a Christmas song. It is plentiful. The Aside of 915 is decent pop. So I now have every record issued on Jerden & the subsidiaries: Panorama, Piccadilly & Burdette. Whoopee!

I also picked up some misc. NW 45s:

Rhythm Knights - Swing Low Rock/Endless Sleep - SRC 1181 - 50's NW Rockabilly

Nep-Tunes - Don't Condemn Me/Cry Big Mountain Three Rivers 111 - 1958 NW White Doo Wop

Dave Darragh - Teen Age Dream / I Try, I Cry, I Die - DARA 1 - 1958 NW Teener

Checkers Feel - All Right/Persuasion - Audio Rec 108 - 1964 NW Instro

2021 was an unexpectedly good year for vinyl, though a few of the 10 highlights below were actually purchased in 2020, just took painfully long to find their way here. Also bought a pile of Euro 45s locally including many upgrades, resulting in a much longer list of acquisitions than in most previous years.

INTRUDERS: Now That You Know (IT)
Contrary to public believe I'm convinced that cool sleeves can make great 45s sound even greater.

HUMAN EXPRESSION: Optical Sound (Accent)
Hardly in need for an introduction. If only more „vocal with orchestra“ 45s could be as brainmelting as this one.

DIPLOMATS: I'm Sad (Continental)
The titel doesn't take a detour: Moody stuff, worthy of a „Shutdown 66“ appearance.

GALABOOCHES: It'll Never Work Out (Staff)
After long years on the wants list, the title gained prophetic qualities. Until it did work out. It ain't no Aztex in terms of rarity but prooved tough to find.

INQUIRERS: Never Meant To Be (Diamond)
Kansas City obscurity w/ lovely guitar sound.

THE 12 A.M.: The Way I Feel (Groovy)
Loose and atmospheric TX twang, groovy indeed.

5b4bc0f8-5ce9-4651-a6d4-82f1525300c3.jpg

STONE CUTTERS: Fellow Slave (Shurfire)
Savage high voltage fuzz from Georgia that contrasts nicely with the soft-voiced singer. Makes the „Mister You're...“ version on the flip one of the most electrifying.

8ccbc303-6356-480a-b8c4-67fb34d4d1c9.jpg

NOVAS: And It's Time (S.T.A.R.)
5* TX jangle. Put off getting a copy until the price started to get silly. Snoozing doesn't pay out.

THE GEE TEE's: Put You Down (Perfection Rock)
Well deserved label name. „Put You Down“ can top my moody charts any day, one to play for disbelievers.

COUNTDOWNS: Sexmaniac (Layola)
Surely these Swiss guys' story has been told somewhere, but I prefer imagining how a song named „Sexmaniac“ was received amongst their well-combed watch-making peers in 1966. Shiny Gnomes made this a minor German scene hit in the 80s.

I can think of two (released) 45s you got in 2021 year which are both top tier and extraordinarily hard to get!

Was that this year? I've lost track

Assuming you meant Knoll Allen & The Noble Savages "Animal", and the upgrade to m- Savages "The World Ain't Round"?

Totally understandable: it's been an Orwellian blur! Not sure if Knoll Allen wasn't 2020, but I'm pretty sure Savages, James Bond & the Agents, and the Gee Tee's were '21, so make that three! That's two forum members who have picked up the Gee Tee's this year - bulk find maybe?

Yes James Bond & The Agents did slip my mind. There were quite a few great ones this year, when I think about it!
I used to get my annual G45 list of purchases from my esnipe history. But they've deleted all the history except for the last few weeks. At least I can't find it any more. :sadd:

OK - I can see my purchases from my eBay account, so I'll post a corrected official list. It's way better than I remembered.

I dealt the vg copy of the Savages to Mark around 2003. Around the same time I also sold him my collection copies of Adrian Lloyd, Dr. Specs Optical Illusion and the Better Half Dozen as I needed to pay off some bills and put a nice down payment on a car. Annoying how those predicaments can impede one's dedicated focus.
Now that I have my old copy of the Savages safely back in the archive, I only need the other three to complete the TBM Top 100 - minus the acetate-only discs, of course.
Needless to say, the Savages was thee highlight acquisition of 2021 for me. Other long time wants secured were the Loubogg She Is Cool Vg++, Timetakers At Least I'll Try VG ++ (no distortion copy), Black Rain Comic Books (distorto fuzz plodder supreme) Krels Psychedelic Feeling, and a nifty pile of great acetate-only discs.

A strange year. I thought I would end up with nothing, but got a few nice things:

Australia
Tony Barber – Someday … Now!, LP. Calendar, R66190
Top album by the former Aztec. The intro and some of the songs are marked by Barber Tony’s quirky sense of humour, but that’s no problem as most of the album is ace beat tunes, many of which cannot be found elsewhere. My copy is on the budget Calendar label, but it’s basically the same as the Spin original and came out only shortly after

The Easybeats – It’s 2 Easy, LP. Parlophone, PMCO 7257
I got a copy of the band’s debut album two years ago, but after reading the George Young biography recently, I was itching to get the other Australian releases. It’s 2 Easy is a great second album with so many good songs: ‘Women’, ‘Come and See Her’, ‘Sad and Lonely and Blue’, ‘In My Book’, 'Wedding Ring’, etc. I couldn’t find a decently priced copy of Volume 3, so I bought the 2019 reissue; I know that doesn’t count, but still a great record

The Easybeats – Who’ll Be The One/ Do You Have A Soul. Parlophone, A 8251
Maybe not as fantastic beat-wise as some of the earlier releases, but still two mighty fine tunes

The Kravats – Baby Let Me Take You Home/ Bali Hai. W&G, WG S 2403
B-side is an instrumental. A-side is a good version of the The Animals’ first single

The Purple Hearts – Early In The Morning/ Just A Little Bit. Sunshine, QK 1448
Both great songs. The A side is an arrangement of a US prison song from the southern states. I wonder where the band first heard that in 1960s Brisbane

Robby Snowden – Talkin’/ No One Really Loves A Clown. Clarion, MCK 1663
Surprised to see the Tony Barber song on the A-side from this Perth singer, but it’s a good version. B-side’s good too

Robby Snowden – Surrounded By A Ray Of Sunshine/ Just A Little. Clarion, MCK 2168
The A-side is pap and best avoided, but the B-side is cool and worth more than the one star it receives in the Kommotion! discography, but that’s just an opinion [STOP PRESS!! I see there is a new edition and ‘Just A Little’ has been upgraded to two stars. Must have given it another spin]

England
The Pretty Things – Come See Me/ £.s.d. Star Club, 148 557 STF
I have been obsessed with the Sandy Edmonds (NZ) version of the A-side since I first heard it a long time ago. It doesn’t appear for sale very often. Edmonds’ rendition is a pretty straight copy of The Pretty Things version, which is fantastic. Does anybody know the story of the song? I had always thought it was an original, but it’s written by a team of US songwriters. Did anybody else record it before The Pretty Things? The B-side is a Taylor/May classic. My copy of the record is the German release

France
Jacques Dutronc – EP. Disques Vogue, EPL 8667
Premier track on this EP is undoubtedly the super-cool ‘Le Responsable’, although I can appreciate the non-psych/garage tracks as well. This purchase is solely due to the enthusiasm of forum members Jim and Outside Looking In, as I had not heard of M. Dutronc beforehand. Thank you, gentlemen

Jacques Dutronc – Mini-Mini-Mini/ Et moi, Et moi, Et moi. Vogue Schallplatten, DV 14566
I also had a look at some other recordings by this artiste and decided to pick up his debut release from 1966. Both songs are beat-heavy with absurd lyrics. I like them. My copy is the German release, which for some reason reverses the track listing; the French original has ‘Et moi, Et moi, Et moi’ on the A-side. But they are both great songs

Hong Kong
Shao Fong Fong/ Wu Fung – Your Cheating Heart/ Hanky Panky. Pathe, PHK 1015
I bought this for the B-side. I’ve got a couple of Asian versions of ‘Hanky Panky’ and they are all pretty good. And seeing as how Shao Fong Fong recorded the super-groovy ‘I Love A Go Go’ I thought this could be rather special. It’s not. The song is performed in a ‘comic’ vein by the male actor Wu Fung and the musical backing is lame. Avoid.

Indonesia
Koes Brothers – I’m In Jail, EP. Top, TOP 21002
Released in 1970, according to Discogs, which would seem to be right from the little I know about the Malaysian Top label. But I am sure the EP was recorded several years earlier, as the band had already broken up by 1969. Also, the tracks are in a similar vein to the two LPs the band released in 1967, after they really had been in gaol [see Garagehangover for more on that story: https://garagehangover.com/koes-bersaudara/] The tracks on the EP are all good pop psych. The standouts for me are the hypnotic ‘Cause I Don’t Know’ followed by the more mainstream ‘Disappointed I Am’. The final track on the EP, ‘Land Of Evergreen’, appeared on the Koes Bersaudara CD re-release from a few years back.

New Zealand
Johnny Devlin’s Devils –Teen Beat/ Rumble. Teen, TC 007
Well, it’s from 1959, so we can’t call it garage I suppose. But what a great instrumental double-header covering Sandy Nelson and Link Wray. Both sides are a bit different to the originals, but ‘Rumble’ probably varies the most, with a spoken intro, a few group screams, and a brighter sound. Top versions, and I have always wanted a record on the Teen label

Regarding 'Come See Me'...it's a stone soul classic by J..J. Jackson. The Pretties had discerning tastes...
