2021 - a year in wax

A fairly busy year, lots of news, mostly unreleased, best garage record I sold went to someone who's already on this page, top 10 fave pick ups:

Garage sounds
Vandals - She caught the wind (acetate)
Bobby and the Innkeepers - Sometimes I walk
Rogues - Tell me no lies
30th Street Station - Expansion (acetate)
Eccentrics - Baby I need you

Soul sounds
Doll & Odds & Ends - Gonna keep on lovin' you (acetate)
Ercel Jones - That's my man
Chuck Vallent - I love you baby (acetate)
Brenda Jo Harris - Your old standby
Soul Sisters - No no more (acetate)

Eccentrics was a $60 small quantity find from Doug Hanners. Kept my spare for a long time.

Quantity straight out of the Sugar Hill/Huey Meaux "bust" load (lol). If I remember correctly,
the original Houston Chronicle arrest story mentioned that Meaux had produced Freddy Fender,
Doug Sahm and John Eric and The Isosceles Popsicles (!!!) That was 'above the fold' on page one.

Regarding 'Come See Me'...it's a stone soul classic by J..J. Jackson. The Pretties had discerning tastes...
That Loma 45 is from 2 years after Pretty Things (1966). Johnny Maestro also did a version in 1966. Wouldn't surprise me if there's a Sidney Barnes or J.J. Jackson demo version from 1965 or 1966. As far as I know, the Pretty Things version was the first that was released.

I just posted this list somewhere else. Some of it is even garage. I'm on a budget, so average cost here is about $3 each.]

My favorite finds of 2021:

Leon Peels: Cottonhead Joe (Whirlybird)

Excellent catch, I've been chasin' curious ol' time tunes for a while and this rated as a superior score decades back. Even though I'm about 110% certain its a repro. Make that 100% w/ 10% appended in the interest of full frontal disclosure.LPCJ$% a.jpeg

That you found one in the wild restores faith in fortune favoring the bold...
