Awful customs changes for Ebay (and other platforms?)) coming January 1st?

Or, more simply, I have a bad feeling they will try to kill the low claim method.

I'm feeling the same way. I insure everything over $50 with Shipsaver. And with them it doesn't matter if you put low value on the customs form because they never ask to see it. But if you insure it through the post office you can only insure it for the amount on the customs form.

So, I just sold a 45 to Norway and the seller told me that Ebay already started collecting the VAT and didn't wait til Jan. 1st. The buyer told me to add the VOEC/Tax/VAT number to the customs form. At first I couldn't find it, then I did. They (ebay) imbedded it in the shipping address. Here's how it looks.

The buyer just told me to declare it for the full value. I guess they don't charge a VAT and a customs fee after all. The buyer just told me that he was charged $37 VAT for a $137 45. WHAT THE FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was just looking at the UK VAT page & if I'm reading it correctly: if you sell directly to UK consumers without the involvement of an online marketplace, you must register and account for the VAT to HMRC (the UK’s agency responsible for the collection and enforcement of taxation).
