Cartridges, tone arms, turntables & so on ...

And talking about Hi Fi, i am saving some money, because i want a phono preamp, now i am using the phono section of my Unison research Unico P, and i find a second hand Audio Research Ph 5, What is your opinion about this phono preamp?. Really i like to have a McIntosh, but for this one i need to save more money, what is your preferences between Audio Research and Mc Intosh? Other suggestions, always thinking that i listen, garage, rock&roll, punkrock, etc.

I have been able to audition most of the ARC & McIntosh tubed preamps @ home over the last 8 - 10 years or so. An old pal has a dealership for both lines. Given the choice, I would go for the ARC for detail, presence & musicality. The Mcintosh is no slouch but the ARC units will outperform them time & time again.

Just my ears & my opinion -

Perhaps the goal should be historical accuracy rather than perfect audio reproduction. I find that this rig is the best for spinning lo-fi, lease-breaking racket:

I had a close 'n' play when I was three years old. Who knew it would be a gateway to what would eventually become an all consuming obsession?

Thanks Ned, is good to know the opinion of somebody that could compare both. This summer, in my holidays i try to visit some dealers and make an audition. If can help, i use a vintage Jbl L50 speaker, i have read that is a good combination Jbl with Mcintosh, what is your opinion of Jbl and ARC?

I have an Audio Research SP 11 preamp , which I'm very happy with . As you mentioned Kuzma , I'm using a Stogi Reference arm on my Phonosophie 3 player .

I did not know phohosophie turntables but looking for some information in the web, it looks very good.
