That is very sad news. He was incredible with the original Saints.
Something no-one knows - I recorded a demo tape for Chris and the Saints (with Janine Hall on bass, I can't remember who the others were, maybe it was mostly acoustic?) in 1981 (or 1982?) in London. It was just a demo on a portastudio. I probably still have a copy of it. I have no idea what happened to the songs. Maybe they were used on an LP, maybe not. I've got so many old cassettes, I'll probably never find it.

One of the best voices in the genre. a bold musical vision on these early albums - and some nice 45 sleeves...

Sad news indeed.
As a teenager I remember reading about "punk rock" before ever hearing it. I then bought all the typical groups. Most seemed okay to my years, but after blindly buying "(I'm) Stranded" on 8-track (because it was on Sire, discounted and the members looked cool) ... I was hooked and could never listen to the Sex Pistols, Ramones etc... the same way again.

My introduction to the Saints was Prehistoric Sounds, which was not released in the US and I was lucky to find an import. Still love that album best. Was lucky to see him live with the group in NYC almost 20 years ago.
