Clueless ebay buyers

Surely the Bandname plus the description is sickening. Anyone to fall for this scheme must have their eyes examined. What's next, Denise's Kompany on the Pee label...

I know the seller and have bought from him (in fact, just about to open a package from him that arrived earlier in the week). He's all right, but like too many sellers on the Bay, he's either really not knowledgeable on what he's selling, doesn't take the time to describe what he's selling so you could get the idea he knows what it is, or both.
When the buyer is clueless, this is what happens. (Part of that cluelessness being not taking the extra minute to 'research' the record.)

I'm not faulting the seller at all, he's a good guy. This is a clueless buyer problem.

But I see the label on Bandcamp just raised the price from $6 to $25!

I'm not really faulting the seller either, but do lay a little responsibility on sellers to try to make a clear listing.
The main onus is still on the buyer to know what they're doing, but if the seller can make it a little easier, it's nice.
I check out plenty of records I see up for grabs. I don't mind the time taken to do so because it can be interesting and I do have the time.

really crazy, saw that one as well. it took 3 seconds of googling or pressing the play button to find out that it's not a vintage 60s group.

a nice 45 nevertheless!

desirable major label sixties singles are just going to become rarer & rarer in clean condition. sure, that auction was pricy (lord knows I wouldn't pay that), but it's not really that surprising to see

every year that passes since thee glory daze brings forth a bumper crop of fresh collectors looking to fill their boxes with the classics, and the supply of clean first pressings (especially promo issues etc) is finite

if you want to see what a real clueless buyer looks like, check this out... sleeveless G+ copy of a 3 star single sells for $5k, even after a handful of deadstock copies hit the market, simply because it was (apocryphally) considered to be the "rarest" garage record at one point in time. pure collector hysteria!

That's why I love Capitalism!!

Two or three copies (from my recollection) of top condition copies hit the market pre-Covid.
Hardly a "handful"

unless the going rate for one of those top condition copies is upwards of $20k (and perhaps it may be), then the winner of that auction is what is known in capitalistic terms as an "irrational actor"

are there any other garage 45s out there which command $5k for copies in comparatively subpar condition (in the case of the Sonics, missing sleeve & hammered disc) ?
