There is a new auction marketplace for collectable vinyl and other formats. I just listed some 45s in garage, surf, hot rod, rockabilly genres to launch the beta for the marketplace. For those of you looking to buy and auction garage and other 45s this will be a great place to do it as it also offers the Garage 45 Price Guide by Barry Wickham and Geoff Richman as an on-line subscription service and has guides for Rockabilly and Surf as well, and others in development. If you are interested in selling on the site please contact me through the site.

The Garage 45 Price Guide by Barry Wickham and Geoff Richman is an on-line subscription service, and has been expanded and updated greatly from the original book. The book was originally published in 2008 and the on-line version of the Garage guide includes thousands of additions with over 13,600 listings from the US, Canada and other countries covering the Garage genre. The on-line edition is updated regularly to capture changes in pricing as well as additional listings of previously unknown bands and records, and new variations of known records so it is always growing. Great initiative. However looking at the site I found the layout a bit confusing, maybe a bit too crowded. But a tip of the hat to Barry whom I hold in high regard.

Hi Jim - Thanks for the note back and appreciate the feedback and would be interested in getting more info from you on the areas you thought were too crowded and a bit confusing as I was concerned about that on the home page. Thanks.

Will PM you tomorrow

Looks good so far and i would welcome the idea of having a marketplace where they don't permanently screw you.

I made a list of some things i think could be improved. Please don't take it the wrong way.

I too found the layout and the handling a bit crowded and buggy.

Some of the elements (like a textbox) where scattered over the screen, in places they surely were not intended to be and couldn't be moved.

The fonts are way small.

I couldn't figure out how to search for the term "garage". Found the listings eventually, but by browsing all records.

When the listings appear, they are very hard to read. Pictures and text are very small.

As bad as ebay is, it let's you browse thru listings easy. That would be a strength to emulate.

Thanks for the effort of creating the site. really hope that it will catch on!

Couldn't have said it better myself, captainsalty.
Good luck to this new site. With major improvements in the user interface, it could be great.

Appreciate everyone checking out the site as well as your observations and suggestions which I will incorporate into some changes with the site layout and searches both short and long term.

While there are improvements to be made, as have been pointed out, I realize too, that there are many, many details and nuances to the design and capabilities of the site that are not readily apparent on an initial review and would be difficult to describe in words and therefore offer a thorough demonstration of the site via a zoom call to anyone interested, please PM me and we will set up time, and I will set up a number of scheduled demonstrations that everyone can sign up for.

Thanks again.

When a user subscribes to a price guide on CompleteRecordedMusic.com the initial setting is for the subscription to continue through a recurring charge to the user’s credit card. Once the initial subscription is set up, the user may go in and modify the subscription to stop the recurring payment at any time and manage continuing the subscription on their own.

We value the security of user’s credit card information and we know our user’s do as well. In order to provide the highest level of security we can, credit card information is handled in a PCI compliant manner such that credit card information is not saved on CompleteRecordedMusic.com, it is only saved with the credit card transaction processor.

In developing the price guide subscription model for CompeteRecordedMusic.com we evaluated Payal’s subscription offering at that time and determined their subscription model did not offer some capabilities and features we felt were important, so we went with developing our own subscription framework with payments through credit cards directly. As we are constantly developing the site we will continue to look at the possibility of accepting payments through Paypal for subscriptions.

With the Auction Marketplace, sellers are able to accept payments through Paypal, or if they are able to receive credit card payments online through one of the major online credit card gateways (i.e. Autorize.net), we will be able to facilitate them accepting credit card payments through the site for their auction sales. The reason for this is the transaction costs for credit cards are lower than Paypal.

Thank you.

The site also has a "snipe" bidding capability built into it ... simply select "Snipe (Timed Proxy)" from the "Bid Type" drop down, put in your bid amount ....

Then select how many seconds prior to either (1) the auction close (may trigger the auction end time being extended), or (2) the dynamic window (will not trigger the auction end time being extended).

After you hit "BID NOW" there is a confirmation page where you can confirm the parameters of your bid before submitting it.

After submitting your bid you will get an email confirmation, and if you are outbid you will get an email notification.

Also, each bidders name is obfuscated on each auction so each bidders username is not revealed to other users.

Let me know if you have any questions .....

Thanks.

I appreciate the detailed answer regarding subscription payments.

However, I am of the mindset that if I have a product to sell, the payment options should be tailored to proven preferences of consumers, regardless of fees that a business may incur.

Recurring subscription payments are designed to benefit the seller under the guise of being easy and hassle free for the consumer. Credit card and bank details are stored with the transaction processor. Even with the choice of "opting out" of a recurring payment plan, these details are still stored "somewhere". No one is ever going to convince me that my information will be immediately discarded / deleted if I follow the "opt out" method chosen by your company.

Recurring subscriptions are merely a way to guarantee payments coming in over a fixed time period. Many people forget they have a recurring subscription for an item, and will pay for something they may no longer want. Also, opting out of a recurring payment choice sounds easy, but it is often a major hassle. I've had to opt out in past payment situations only to discover a new deduction charge on my statement for something I had cancelled previously. The cost of my time and aggravation dealing with mis-charges and errors is not worth it to me. Why not just offer two options - a one time subscription payment, and a recurring subscription? Seems easy enough.

In short - I will avoid the hassle altogether. If CompleteRecordedMusic.com chooses to make a paypal payment, or even mail order check / money order an option for a yearly subscription, and not a recurring charge to a credit card or debut card, then I'm all in. Until then...I will pass.
Good luck!

yes, i think this is the way to go.

i don't even have a credit card and would never want one. i did have one before paypal hit the scene, but would never go back, so people like me won't be able to participate. you should also keep in mind that credit cards generally are not that common outside the usa.

still, hope the site develops and will burst will goodies soon!

re: layout: i will add a screenshot of how the site looks on my screen (macbook pro, safari). i don't think it's how it is intended to be.

Thanks for the screen shot and that certainly is not how it is intended to be and will get that fixed asap, appreciate you sharing that !!

I will look into paypal payments for subscriptions and taking manual payments as well.

Thanks ....... I did a number of Zoom demonstrations today and will schedule more shortly and will post a link to the sign up shortly.

Thanks and appreciate the feedback.

The site has a data structure, information, functions and capabilities that simply do not exist anywhere else. I will give you three examples to start with. (1) Variations for a particular record are structured in a hierarchy so a user can identify a variation easily and efficiently with a text description and image. (2) There is a “snipe” bidding capability built into the auction. (3) With tracking your collection a user has the ability to add the following information about the copy in their collection; grade, image, what they paid for it, when the bought it, who they bought it from, what they think it is worth and other fields.

These capabilities, and many others, do not exist on any website focused on record collecting. The Zoom meetings are designed to show users these capabilities because, as many of the comments have shown, folks assume it is like other sites they have been on and it is much more.

Bring your skepticism and point of view, but also bring an open mind to the possibilities the site offers, and while the site is not perfect, it has many, many unique capabilities and will continue to grow with your ideas.

I placed a bid there and everything went easy and smoothly.
and I eventually won a nice record. Now let’s see how the invoice/payment process works.

Completed the transaction and received a great record ! All went smooth and easy with a very responding seller. Great job !

Thank you for sharing your experience ... and most of the garage 45s listed for auction were sold and I appreciate everyone who participated and for the success of the initial round of auctions ... more auctions coming soon.

Looking for other sellers who want to use the auction platform and become a seller, please contact me if you are interested.

Thank you.
