I came upon a recent Pat O'Brien autobiography at my local library today. For those who don't know, O'Brien was a sports announcer who moved onto mainstream U.S. media like Entertainment Tonight. But why this is of any interest here, is that as a teenager he was the keyboardist for Dale Gregory & The Shouters (of "Did Ya Need To Know" fame on B-Sharp). I looked to see if the band was included in the book and there are about 3 pages of interesting stuff, including a story about The Hollies coming to one of their parents houses after a gig and "Boys" being the first song O'Brien sang with the band. The band is pretty well documented, so maybe none of this stuff is new, but it was the first time I was reading about it.
Regarding seeing The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, he remarks something like "I went to school Friday as Elvis Presley and came in Monday as a Beatle".

There's a big article on them in one of the issues of Lost and Found with lots of pictures, including them hanging out with the Hollies. "Did ya Need to Know" is a first rate raver that has been re-issued several times. There's a cassette that exists of other material by the band and a later version of it but I've never tracked it down...

Maybe it's just as well that you haven't heard the other stuff (neither have I). This way we can pretend they were perfect!
