Debris vol.3

Hello.

I'd like to introduce myself to this forum. I'm the one responsible for these Debris comps you've been seeing pop up as of late, (for those who care). I'm from Los Angeles, and I like Rock 'N' Roll!

A few things to clear up as part of my intro. I own none of the original records that have been featured in these projects. But, I figure you guys in here already knew that. I own some garage 45's, but none of the ones you've seen featured. I ain't packin' enough dough to be buying some of these unfortunately. I wish!

Obviously these are being taken from somewhere. E-bay would be the only place I roam and gather these nugs when they are available. I've actually never taken tracks from blogs or any other site hosting these, as Mike put it in an earlier post. The only tunes I use and take come from the bay. In some cases, I've been lucky enough to get some of these through the actual band members, with their permission of course. As for pictures and other goodies that might end up as part of the art, well, those are things that one can find on the net easily. Any and all credit goes to the original hosts of these pictures, etc. I take NO credit!

The reason behind this idea was simply for 'fun'. I've always wanted to do something like this. I'm aware that certain folks have stolen tracks and tried making a profit from it in the past, and yeah, that's sleazy! That's why when I did this, there was never any intention to actually charge people for any Debris copies. Save me your (I doubt anyone would buy one, crack*). But even if all the tracks were stellar and off the wall, I still woulda done this free of charge. I ain't doing this to make money. I'm just having fun with the music I love most - 60's garage! :cool: It's also exposing ME to tracks I've never heard of. When it comes to hearing this stuff, the more, the BETTER! I'm also interested in hearing those dreaded sides you guys always mention as BTTG contenders. I don't wanna die without knowing what they sounded like, even if they're truly bad. I always hope that someone will allow me to hear them, somewhere.

Of course the information on these suck at times, but what do you expect from one guy doing it all on his own, who's not totally informed. I'd like to be able and ask people on here for info, but I'm kinda hesitant. Some of you's on here are snooty, or either sarcastic at times and it's really annoying. That's sorta why I stay away. Like, I remember some dude asking a queston regarding 'The Keggs', his question came something like - "Did the Keggs record anymore material, did they evolve in sound?", and the person who replied said something like - "Yeah, they went on and became a string quartet and added horns and went on a european tour". Seriously man, that's just being an ass. I realize to you guys these 'questions' may be silly, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't answer them or ridicule them. That's just one example of my point. :%:

I applaud those on here for knowing their shit. I'm just a youngster, but I'd love to one day say I hold the kind of information some of you have acquired over the years from your countless hours of research. I HIGHLY respect you guys for that. I appreciate how you explain with great detail the story behind some of these groups. For someone like me, that's a real treat. That's what I'm interested in. I'm not the typical young adult who likes this stuff, but doesn't care to dig deeper as to WHO EXACTLY WERE THESE PEOPLE? I'm not just hung up on the fuzz or this wearin' bones 'round my neck, shit. I actually wanna be schooled, all thee way! To quote one of my favorities, "I don't wear mod clothes, beatle boots, or (well I DO have long hair!) :p

I hope that my above comments regarding certain individuals' attitudes doesn't offend. Because I'm sure some of you are thinking, "Who is this guy, who does he think he is?". I'm certainly not here to cause any trouble or gain any enemies. I've visited this site many times and I just want to say THANK YOU for putting in the REAL work it's taken to provide solid information on these artists. I truly mean no disrespect to ANY of you!

Now, to the people who've been listening, I thank you very much for your feedback and for your generous attitude, despite the reality of this project. I'll be honest, looking back at the first Debris, ugh. Now with the truth exposed, it's pretty clear them liners were just a bunch of bullshit! It was my first try at compiling, gimmie a break! I didn't know what to exactly put down, so I figured if I told a 'lil tale about how I found them and such, that might spice it up, but no, I decided not to do that again. I felt like quite the fool when the "Boys 'N Ivy" 45's value was announced :lol: I was given horrible information by someone who I thought was a credible source. They told me that record was pricey, around the $300 range. I'm not sure if THEY paid that much, or if they were just wrong all together. I was a peeper in the old G45 forum, so I remember reading the comments you guys posted. Reading the above comments, I see yet another example of me having bad information. I was convinced that Sunday Servants was Lou Reed related. My bad I guess!

Now, on my final note. If anyone would like to contribute to Debris in any way, (which I doubt, but I'll still throw it out there) feel free to let me know. Maybe with solid info, or whatever, feel free. I don't bite and I would honestly welcome it. It was nice stopping by finally on the NEW G45 site. This place looks absolutely awesome! Great work guys!

I'll still continue to put out Debris for those who like it.

Welcome, Swyne, to the forum. Don't be put off by the "aire" which sometimes whirls thru postings on the board. That's what makes things lively, rather than just being pedestrian. As for snooty, well, we are all guilty of this at times, depending on the thread content. But it is nothing compared to what I encounter while reading thru various soul music collector forums. Talk about one-upmanship and bravado - those folks surely take the cake.

And thanks for giving us some background on your project. I've always wondered why people wish to remain secretive or hide their identity and efforts. If you wish to contribute something to the overall '60s 'scene' in any manner, I believe it is worthwhile for all to let everyone know about your effort, large, or small.

I think the freebie comp is the way to go in 2011, seems much more fun to me than scrolling thru blogs to find obscure songs (oh jeez, I've just insulted all the blog guys (sorry!). I'm looking forward to more falling debris! And I also agree, they've gotten better since Vol 1.
Post the download link directly on the website - or maybe Mark can create a special link section on the main forum page, if you have your own webspace.

Anything you wish to know, feel free to ask, someone here will know. I try to answer all queries as best as I can, based upon both my own and shared research info.

And yeah - I would contribute tracks for a BackToTheGrave, as time permits, for a freebie download, if interested. I have most of them.

It's J.J. Cale along with Teegarden & Van Winkle, who had a 1970 chart record with "God, Love, and Rock & Roll".

Forgive me if (I) seemed rude the first time around. I shouldn't judge everyone in here based on a few comments I've seen within' my visits. I apologize to those if I offended. It's actually no big deal now that I think about it.

I also appreciate you lending your knowledge. I will indeed stop by and ask any and all questions in the future, if I need to. Again, thank you for reaching your hand out.

From now on, with your approval, I'll just post the links to new Debris here. It seems people prefer the quick link download anyways, rather than trying to share it over on slsk. Nobody even uses that shit anymore!

Now for a little treat. I am here to announce that Debris #8 has been completed. I have provided the link below and hope that you guys like it. This time I packed it with 30 songs, instead of 20. I also skipped on the liners this time. The lazy bug got to meh!

I'll leave it to the experts here to fill in those blanks for those who have any questions regarding some of the tracks featured. Debris numero ocho simply comes with a small introduction page and the usual neat front and back covers.

Does that mean a big thank-you should also go to ebay sellers providing full length samples?
If they'd display only 1 minute samples, which a lot of course do, they would be useless.
But, just to get the picture, what exactly is the difference between taking samples from blogs or taking them from ebay? As long as you don`t try to make money with it...

I suppose there's no real huge difference, but I don't like taking music that people are showcasing with their blogs, from their actual collection. I wouldn't wanna take away any of the attention from them. In any case where I'd like to, I would of course ask them before anything for their permission.

The records auctioned on e-bay, well, who the hell knows where those end up as far as ownership. The soundclip is free, and when it's featured in Debris, it's still free!

There's a reason why I don't put my name on these. For all I know, somebody in the future will take tracks from Debris.

Who cares.

Once it's up on the net, it's really for anyone's taking. I have no control over that. For me, it's really just for fun.

If anything I think it would rather draw attention to their blogs instead of taking away any. Because, how could somebody's attention who is already a follower of a blog, be drawn by songs which pop up somewhere else? On the contrary, if somebody wants to find out more about the music on some obscure comp, one of the blogs is probably the only way to go.

But I was actually seriously speaking for the ebay sellers providing those sound clips:
1. Instead of just raving about some "rare" mod-garage-psych-whatever, they give the buyer a chance to listen to the music in question and decide for himself. Not to forget that they actually take their time to transfer the song from vinyl.
2. Instead of transfering just one minute, they transfer the whole song and display it on ebay. Thus even undermining their own business (because somebody might be taking it from there and spread it...). And, as a lot of this particular stuff is somewhere below "killer" quality, it is not really necessary to either have an original or have it on a vinyl comp, but nice/interesting to have on a free CD comp. Some of the stuff is of a quality that would make it impossible to find anywhere else if not on ebay or in a dusty box at some record dealer's (who again might have a stereo to let customers listen to the music, and would definitely threaten his business if anyone could just come in and record everything).
I guess there is no "official" way to thank those sellers for their policy, but I think it should be said here, at least (if only for the countless hours I hung around in record shops listening to music without buying anything or just one record, or hours at ebay listening to soundclips without bidding on anything). So, hopefully (for Debris and in general), some of the (ebay) sellers stay as generous as they are...

This being said, I do think it's a cool idea to make comps containing this kind of stuff.

I see what you're sayin', but if I was taking tracks from blogs I would certainly credit those folks and their sites as the source. Thanking a bunch of sellers on e-bay in the booklet or within' the artwork, I dunno, I guess I just thought that would look silly :lol:

But as for here and now, of course dude, I'm appreciative to those that provide the full tune. Not for debris material, but for ME, because some of these are new to my ears. I love this kinda stuff, so whenever I get to hear new things it's always a pleasure. Regardless if it doesn't have that killer or even decent garage type sound to it.

If it weren't for these compilations that people put out, I have no idea how I woulda ever gotten into this music. So yeah, good idea indeed! :p
 
These comps are the sheep's pinata! I love the off kilter obscurities the most.

I always figure with what (little) I've ripped and shared with old 45s it's a situation of 'be free', kind of like releasing a small bird or something. I'm usually near the front of the line for a proper rerelease on vinyl or CD anyway.

I guess I must be your first fan since I dig ALL the tracks you’ve selected for your installments (except for Bobby Brelyn on Debris 3) and I share the concept behind it at 100%. Unheard but nevertheless most interesting flip-sides, a few tracks that have been comped before but are in a better row here, and some forays to the outer fields like Rockabilly, folk or soul or even Doo-wop, always with a strong Garage-sound to it. I absolutely don’t care if you get these gems from Ebay or from anywhere else. Most important is, they do kick ass, I’d say. Debris 8 was – just as vol. 7 – another chain of only pearls, I specially love Mickey Buckins, Eddie Alexander & Greats, Satan's Sinners. London Tymes’s crazy version of the Easybeats’ R’n’R Music (far out drumming) and Candy Johnson’s Hound Dog (the only garage-track with a bass-solo I know), and, of course, both Gremlin-tracks. I’ve created a little insert with some group-pics and label-scans I found in the net, you (and everybody who likes) can d/l it at http://www.mediafire.com/?b3e472zaqbzk593 . At this moment, I'm workin' on a double-CD with pretty rare gems from my fatherland (i.e. Germany) it will be another sequel of famous the Electrik Loosers-project done in cooperation with the Lolly Pope (Prae Kraut-Pandaemonium), so stand by....

.. really wild indeed, including some skips & scratches and many unheard platters too... the tracks I dig most are by the Rockin' Orbits (even the slow flip in true crooner's style ain't bad), both tracks by Does It Really Matter and by the Rogues, the Sindacate and the Sabres.... great job as always, Mario, keep the fire burnin'!
