Sorry 'bout the color and spelling mistakes on the above post but it went crazy on me after copy/paste from Word....

I have:

2005: Bits 'N' Pieces - Look Out Linda / Who Could I Turn To

Both sides written by Buck Ram (songwriter and manager of the Platters)

And yes, that is 2005. I guess there was a 2000 series as well.

Funny that this name pops up here. Just yesterday I bought a fabulous 45 produced by Buck Ram. I didn't even know who he was. Asking the seller if he knows anything about the origins of the group, he said the only thing he knows is that it was produced by Buck Ram.
I ended up reading a long article about him on Wikipedia, where it says:

"It has been written that the history of rock and roll could not be written without Buck Ram's contributions. He was one of BMI's top five songwriters/air play in its first 50 years, alongside Paul Simon, Kris Kristofferson, Jimmy Webb, and Paul McCartney. Ram also wrote, produced and/or arranged for The Platters, The Coasters, The Drifters, Ike and Tina Turner, Ike Cole, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Ella Fitzgerald, and many others."

The 45 is a great and very affordable platter ;) by a group called the Harlequins. Both sides are cool. Their rendition of "Greenback Dollar" (flip of "Where I Belong") is probably the best I ever heard. Anyone knows where they're from? New Orleans maybe? Sounds to me they have that Southern charm.
I suppose they're a black outfit, and for that they sound quite "garage-y". Someone comments another song of theirs (I suppose it's the same group) as:
"Think Big Boy Pete or The Jolly Green Giant with different words. Sounds like the Standells (Dirty Water) to me."
Well, that's maybe exaggerating, but not altogether wrong.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the input, but I think that's another Dee Gee label. Wasn't that disc also issued on Antler? I think I have it somewhere but unable to search right now. Been so long since I bought it but I don't think that's a CA label. It looks like a Buck Ram venture as another disc on the 'Bay also has his name on it. MTM?

You're probably right. Buck Ram was based in Las Vegas. His Antler/Entre labels were out of there. But, he did some stuff in L. A. as well. That's why I thought it might be the same label as the Tony Harris Dee Gee. But the label style is completely different. Sorry for the misdirection.

No problem! Intrigued by who Tony Harris is/was. Never seen a photo or interview or anyting really. Closest I got was when the bass player from The Woodies (who backed him on the Triumph release) contacted me on eBay after I bought the disc. He was curious why someone was willing to pay $30-40 for it and willing to answer any questions I might have. Only problem was that I'd never heard any other Harris 45s at that point so I didn't have any questions for him. Now I regret this but the back-up eBay mails are long gone. Bummer

It is the same label, different numbering series. Not everything Buck did was based in Vegas.

The Bits & Pieces were from Canada, they got signed while performing in LA.

The Fenians were from Ireland, for example. The master was acquired by leasing.

The Harlequins were from Las Vegas.

Tony Harris was involved with two groups prior to his solo releases. Besides the Woodies, he was with the Bows And Arrows - "I Don't Believe You" released on GNP-Crescendo. Tho that might have just been a pseudonym for a different release.

Thank you! And my apologies to Rich.

Stellar information!

Would you happen to know if there actually is a third Tony Harris on 3016, as the old Popsike listing said or if it's just misinformation?

Really? If so it's bloody scarce. Cool.

Darrius is Tony Harris btw, if the info in the brackets below the song is to be trusted (Darrius: Tony Harris)

I'm pretty sure Darrius is the Darius that had the LP on Chartmaker. He was also known as Darius De Paul. Sounds like the same guy singing. I suspect the credit is to be read as they shared it. He lived in LA from 1964 to about 1970 when he returned to his hometown of Cleveland. He actually returned to performing in Cleveland as Darius De Paul.

Thanks for this info. Yes, I was wrong. I also need to buy some glasses. It was not ":", but ";" on the label credits. After playing through How much do I love you from both Darrius and Tony Harris (since it's also the flip to Super Man) yesterday it's quite clear it's two different guys singing.
