so i'm doing some guest dj think with a friend. i was told 100 records would be enough . i got the hundred but there's others i want to bring. anybody got any suggestions on what i should do? should i weed out some ?
i've got a couple eps by the belfast gypies, the isreali ep of the seaders, some soul , some garage like the little boy blues, , del vettes, brigands, initial shock, sons of adam , some weird stuff like john rydgren, los claners vol3 lp etc
if you were doing a dj thing what would you bring ??

will there be dancing? More chicks than guys? These things really matter...

I had the very same dilemma the other day.... The Plague (who is on this forum too) invited me to Dj... BUT the issue is almost 70 percent of my garage 45s consist of moody jangle and more downtrodden stuff... it was a struggle to find 45s which were vastly danceable in my collection, I had chosen about 70 records to put in my box, I think I did pretty well with what I had.

Here in the UK, with the records we were spinning we would be classed as GODS in other lands, however in the UK, not a great deal of people are into true 60s garage and all we had were drunk students dancing around us... either way, it's still good to play this music to new ears.

Belfast Gypsies is always a good spinner.... I played Gloria's Dream the other night.

If a record lifts you up and makes you wanna dance it will probably work when dj'ing for others aswell. Brigands is killer, for example. IMO it's good to mix styles up a bit instead of just playing say 'garage' for 4 hours. Even the most exciting musical style turns into chinese water torture after a few hours... at least in my opinion. Ever been to a rock-a-billy club? Then you know what I mean... ;)

i always bring way more records than i need, maybe about 400% more than what i have time to play, especially when DJing for a dancefloor you have to read the crowd and have a possibility to move towards what the crowd seem to like.

I could never just bring one tiny tiny box of singles if i was to dj one or two hours
