A good friend found this very rare and desirable 45 out of Oklahoma at a garage sale in NJ last week. Unfortunately out of all the 45s at the sale, it was the only cracked one, but is a very tight crack and plays well. I usually buy all the garage stuff he finds (including a Java Men 45 from the same sale -- how's that for lucky?) but it was too hard to figure out a fair price, so he stuck it on eBay:

The sound files are not very well recorded, and are not indicative of how it sounds, which was pretty good when I played it last night. They do illustrate that the clicking of the crack at the beginning of the songs is very minor, especially on the A-side which is the good track.

I found the guys in James Bond & the Agents around 7 years ago. No copies of the 45 and they never did find the master tape.:(

The guy who ran a recording studio in Tulsa had safety masters of everything he recorded. He wouldn't allow anyone to reissue anything, because it would cost too much money to find everyone, pay them, etc. I believe he has since passed away and the tapes are in a landfill.

If everyone who wanted to reissue stuff went through the proper channels, the sixties garage resurgence would never have happened, and thousands of people today would be blissfully unaware of the exceptional joy garage music can bring. Well, perhaps that's an exaggeration, but it is abundantly clear that the scene would be much poorer than it is now were it not for the bootleggers.
