Evil Encorporated 1967

Can't you sell the phone?

Seriously, G45Central would be happy to pay for the book if it's still available. As long as you post nice scans of any/all the cool material here.

Press Play then.:wtf:

Thank You.

:D

So I got the 1967 year book today Collins High School, Oak Hill, WV Home of the Collins Red Devils :twistedevil: unbelievably this year book I have here belonged to Doug Gent, drummer and lead singer of the band.

Yes, insane.

So, it has 3 pictures of the band 2 small ones and the one you've seen is a half page Ad! As yet I can find 3 members of the band in the sophomore mugshot section. So, I guess that makes them 14ish years old? Also, it looks like two of them are in the school drum band. The autographs are few but what there are, are just too cool.

That is Doug in the centre

I'll get better scans at work, on a bigger scanner. Just thought I would tease you a little.

Here is where they resided in 1967 (12/26/1967 according to the copyright certificate for both songs issued on their 1st 45)

Doug Gent 102 Thurmond Drive Oak Hill WV
Eddie Micheal - Oak Hill, WV
Frank Dunlap - Scarbro, WV
Bob James - Fayetteville, WV

Thanks Mike,

you are a wonder.:boggle:

More info -

The band photographed is not the exact band that recorded the 45. Bob James was a later edition ((but in the newspaper clipping) which paper I'm unsure it was just the cut-out). In the photos we have Gary in the yearbook he was a senior, so left that year. Scarbro is 2miles from Oak Hill, which is why Frank Dunlap attended this school. Fayetteville is 8 miles away and has a high school so I'm guessing Bob James went there.

Also, here are some messages exchange with a guy that knew Doug,
"Doug still had some things from their days when I was hanging around him but not much - he said they'd bought stage outfits from the touring Box Tops at one point, things like that, and he told me that at one point he was so frustrated with his lack of success in music that he just built a bonfire and threw all his mementos in...clothing, everything related to it. I wish I had those charts he had...there were some significant regional hits in our area (I know "Hey You" charted in the top 10 in the region) but without the charts that info is lost to time, and there doesn't seem to be a cache of them anywhere. The current station owners don't have them given this was information from nearly 50 years ago.

Doug passed away about 10 years ago in the middle of a sex change transformation - can't get much more rock and roll that. Is his stuff turning up for sale? He had some local charts from wwnr I wish I had - I doubt other copies exist"

He also owned and ran a studio in Mashville for a time too, Media productions I think - http://www.reocities.com/nashville/ranch/2220/

amazing pictures Gavin..... I'm gonna use some of these ideas for a fanzine I'm working on.... the combo of cut out pictures and bubble writing is a pure winner.

Paul, I think this in the ad section. The telephone number cropped off :crap:so no bookings from this I guess.

Also their name seems less edgy when you understand the school teams were The Red Devils as was their mascot. Evil Enc was like naming your band after the school Alma Mater.

that's a bit lame then... still a great name and effectively used.

if I did that at my school... the band would be called the dead religious poofs.

I believe this was introduced to the world on a "Highs in the Mid-Sixties: The South" volume.

West Virginia is one of those regions that you would only expect to find C&W in. How many garage (or psych?) singles came out of there?

Let's see, off the top o me noggin:

Evil enc - 2 singles
Rondeaus
King James & Royal Jesters
New Mason Dixons
Magnums
Mysteries - 2 singles
Second Set
Paragons
Fantastic Emanons -2 singles (members of the group from WV + OH)
Mojos (1 single as the Mojos, 2nd as the Muffets)
Barracudas
Sabres
Plastic Menagerie (still unconfirmed)

I'm sure there are more, I have all of the above in my collection.

There was a Glass Menagerie 1965 - 67 in among the early Mind Garage members. But no releases?
