Well, that's a rough crowd, but, even if you didn't get a hat full of bill's, you could eat for the next year!!!

Several bands around the world have made a recording of "Little Boy Blue" and sent it to me for my thoughts on their production of our tune. First off, to me it's an honor that they think enough of our music to even want to play the song. And, although the other versions I've heard aren't like the way we plaed it (and shouldn't) if they make the song their own. But, who am I to tell another musician that their take on the song is wrong or bad. The other versions are recognizable as LBB, just performed in a different musicians "feel" for the tune. In that sense, they are all great. In fact, a band out of Torino, Italy who recorded LBB on their cd dedicated the whole cd to "Tonto and the Renegades". That was another honor greatly appreciated. The Italian group is called "Acid Lemon". And, my good friend, Erik-4A (Howling Houndog of Seatle, recorded that song on his latest cd.
Paulo from Acid Lemon is a true 60s garage geek and a very nice guy.
LBB is such an enjoyable song to play that you must have received a lot of those covers! But most important is your honourable opinion about them. (I already mentioned it here but) the last time I send cover songs to the guys who wrote them, one of them wanted to sue us and asked for royalties... The shower's been pretty cold so I don't do it anymore even though I'd love to!

Anyway, I like those stories because it reveals a lot about the way "artists" relate to music:
-the Animals' The Story of Bo Diddley is not all truth but based of real events according to Eric Burdon
-on YT, the guy from the Glass Sun comments on the -great- cover of Stick Up With Me by the Reigning Sound
-I also recently read how proud McCartney was when he heard Fats Domino's cover of Lady Madonna (I don't if he ever listened to Elvis jamming on it), and I'm sure he had a ball listening to Jay Hawkins' version of Monkberry Moon Delight... (it's been said that he wanted to sue the Ruttles though, while Lennon&Harrison loved them... but this case deals more with having a sense of humour)
-here is an interview of Chuck Berry mentioning his songs being covered:

Mr. Wallet,

It surprises me when I read something like this from someone like the great Chuck Berry and find that I have said the same in interviews of my own. But, maybe it shouldn't surprise me from a musicians point of view. And, his very last comment really says it all. Even though others have played the tune very well and heart felt, our original is the best. Like with movies, for me the sequel(s) are never as good as the original. Thanks for sharing this. I'm sorry you have had bad experiences when sharing your musical take on anothers work. To me it's quite a tribute. What greater compliment could another musician pay?

I keep hearing about how Facebook can connect people to actual paying gigs, I'll have to make inquiries I guess, especially if I ever wanna unveil my Pixiphone version of LBB (mu hu ha ha, hope the fries/chips/crisps are fresh). Oh, I really don't want to look at facebook knowing how much time so many people I know spend there... I'd rather be the last lemming over that cliff but getting tired of people reacting in total shock and pity when I repeat I am not on there. :(

I have heard of people's own music being removed from facebook (and youtube), anybody know anything about that? Maybe they were all cover songs, or just someone trying to cause stress?

Becca, I'd like to hear your version of LBB what ever a Pixiephone is? Is it like FaceBook and you? I don't own or want any type of phone I have to carry around with me. Not interested in being that connected ALL the time. Besides, don't like the idea of being tracked. I've gotten along without such a thing for nearly 63 years and I can get along without it for another 63. Or less;)

A Pixiphone is toy xylophone, made in England, with a very high quality sound. Apparently someone named Steve Peregrine-Took recorded with one on some late '60s Marc Bolan records. I discovered one in Erik's studio and sent away for my own. After London Bridge I worked out the Sooty puppet show theme (with twin mallets of course) and Little Boy Blue strikes me as the next step in my evolution (the Stones' Under My Thumb baffling me so far). I could work up to Hendrix of the Pixiphone I think if I can get at least as far as doing Pipeline.

There may even be a future session for a twin Pixiphone number ala Ronnie Aldritch. :)

Oh, as the Pixiphone evolves, so goes LBB. Under My Thumb is another good choice, and I hope the Stones aren't offended and pricks. I can hear the ringing in my ears. Oh wait, that may be drums.
