KING BEE. S/T (1978-1981) LOLLIPOP SHOPPE. Just Colour (1968) ZIPPER. S/T (1975) Does anyone detect a common thread here? Yep...FRED COLE! One'a my fave rockers of all time! I'm starting off with King Bee, Fred's late 7ts band who put out just 1still easy to find 3 song EP in 1978. Crude as shit below-fi punky rock n roll recorded mostly in the Cole practice room. This one just came in the mail today and I'm diggin' the heck out of it. As far as Lollipop Shoppe & Zipper there is no introduction needed cause they are a household name in every single one of yer pads. Well...except maybe you Genesis guys who will h8 the hell out of 'em! Frederick Lee Cole take 'er away. Listen to every single song on band camp below. Pay attention to track #17 Shaker Blue.

PS. I woulda included Fred's next band the Rats but none of their 3 lps has ever come out on cd.

PSS. Fred's next band Dead Moon are my fave band in the last 35 years. And I own every note that they recorded.

Sometime around 1990 (give or take a year) I bought a magazine that included a cassette comp. This was my introduction to Fred Cole (Dead Moon) - which featured the song "Black September." I've been a fan of his music ever since!

Toody has been doing the occasional show, usually backed up by members of Jenny Don't and tne Spurs, which includes Kelly Haliburton, who was the drummer in the Pierced Arrows. Just missed her a few weeks ago ☹️.

Hey Perkeo, pass this on ta Toody. Her new band should be called The Toodle-oos or Toodaloos or Toodyloos

I can't let this topic fade away without mentioning the Weeds "It's Your Time". Probably the best thing Fred Cole ever did. Not to underestimate the rest (especially that which I have never heard), but how could you possibly top it? 🥇😛⚡
Of course I love the weeds, I was just showing the cds that I own. I thought about putting my comp up with the weeds, its your time but since this post was actually listed by me on one of my obscure hard rock groups I decided to copy and paste it here. Marcus, you don't actually think I left out the weeds on purpose do you? Let me answer that...OF COURSE NOT

I don't have a fraction of your musical knowledge Joey. I'm one of the fortunate few who have seen photos of your music collection! 😲😍
My piddly lil gathering is zilch compared to your collection. Knowledge? Most guys around here put me to shame. I'm just a little more open minded than most.

Fred was the greatest. The king of DIY. Fixing everything from mono lathecuts, to amps to van engines. And who would run a marathon at 60 - and finish it off with a cigarette? There's no band I saw more often than Dead Moon and each one of these 20+ shows turned into a near-religious experience. Fred, Toody and Andrew could turn a room of strangers into a flock of believers. There was no band // public separation. Gigs were family affairs, shamanic celebrations of the raw power of r&r. The other night I watched old live videos of Radio Birdman: people moving in a possessed manner, shaking, screaming and it reminded me a lot of these DM shows. Not musically, but in terms of the insane energy level in the room. Fred was key, but Toody added vibes a plenty, raspy laughs, laddish slaps and a perfect bass player in a trio, where every instruments held the others. Saw her last year at a book launch event in Berlin, backing local bands playing DM songs and just seeing and hearing her up on stage again sent showers of high voltage goose-bumps. When they played interview snipped with her and Fred it was getting scary. His swearing and laughing was so vivd and lively: Back fromthe grave in the best possible sense. Of course Andrew held his own special place, and not just for all the Jack Daniels he passed out to us fans.

If you have even a remote interest in Fred Cole, do get this book: It's in it's third print-run by now and a labour of love.

Here's a blurry snap I took of the three in the summer of 1990. Good times...
