G45 Ebay Watch

I bought my copy to Wickham for 250$ three years ago. And he auctioned a copy for 300$ a year or so ago.

Well if I didn't totally hate Ebay before....I DO NOW...I just recieved a email from them with the new fee structure. They start by saying good news is coming. Starting next month sellers with a EBAY STORE ($15.95 A MONTH) now get 150 free listings a month. In this world nothing is free. So I go and check the new final value fees and they have doubled. For instance a $1000 record final value fee is now $3.75 for the first $50 and 4% for the next $950, which comes out to $46.50 plus 4% on top of whatever the shipping cost is (FUCKERS) The new final value fee will be....ARE YOU READY FOR THIS???!!! 9% which now doubles my old fee. They now have a different fee structure (4%, 5%, 6%, 7%, 8%, 9%) based on which category you list in. For records/music it's 9%!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So last month the post office more than doubled my shipping costs overseas which has killed me and now Ebay is doubling their fees. Oh, but you get 150 free listings!!! FUCK OFF EBAY!! I know why Ebay is doing this, it's because they're losing tons of money because of the shipping rates and these evil bastards will make it up on the backs of the sellers who have already been buggered. I just sold a AZITIS LP this week for $898.00 my final value fee was $42.00, next month that same final value fee will be $80.82. Also, any item over $250 has to go by Express mail International which will be close to $60 so add another 9% on $60 shipping which will be $5.40. The nerve of these fuckers to charge me $5.40 on shipping which I make ZERO on. I already lose 4% on shipping costs through Paypal. So my total fees to sell a $898.00 record will be $86.22. And then add around 4% for Paypal fees. This looks like the nail in the coffin for me and many others. This reminds me of our evil govt. They say they need to make more money to bring down the deficit. So rather than lower taxes and let people thrive so they spend more money and boost the economy, they raise taxes force companies to go out of business or lay off workers. So rather than bring in lots more money, they actually bring in a lot less. Ebay is doing the same thing. Rather than lowering fees and let sellers thrive, they are driving up fees (on top of the new insane shipping rates) and forcing sellers to go elsewhere (basically nowhere) or go out of business. A bumper sticker I saw last week says it all "We don't need higher taxes, we need more tax payers". The moral to the story is "Ebay doesn't need higher fees, they need more transactions" As of next month their transactions will plummet and so will their bottom line!! Sorry for the politics but I'm tired of getting fucked.

But nobody is forcing you to use eBay Joey. Not to play the devil´s advocate, but it is your own choice were you list your records. Wether you play the email list game, record fairs, other online shops like Gemm etc. Maybe I`ve become spoiled as a buyer through the years but sellers have certainly become spoiled as well regarding selling records for a much higher price than it was ever possible to achieve before on an even scale. Why don´t you, fer instance, post Mystic for sale on this forum with a fixed price or even a best offer option instead of using eBay? Because you hope to obtain the wild card that is the extreme bidder(s). Then you also have to pay the price for somebody offering you this option. Azitis, you could have offered it on Waxidermy and probably be awarded a good price for it. Recently the first Trimble was offered in a small quantity and they all flew out the window for $850 within a day or two.

Maybe eBay was too good to be true. And eGay MTM? What the fuck is up with the gay angle?

I don't have much time to respond to your post, but whether they raise the final value fees on ebay by 50% or the price of gas goes from $5 a gallon to $10 overnight or the price of a movie goes from $12 to $24, a lot of people are going to be pissed. Remember; Paypal is sending all sales figures to the IRS now too. So with all the fees and 40% tax there is little meat on the bone. chas kit has started another thread on the same topic but his post is way off, it's way worse than he says it is. I'm moving my post over there. So maybe we can all respond to Chas kit's thread. Instead in 2 places.

I sold a NM copy of MYSTIC to BW a few years ago for $3500 in a 3 way deal with Alec P. Let's just say we netted $3000. I listed a NM MYSTIC on Ebay for $1999.99 (i think) It didn't sell, I sold it to Moptop Mike for $1700. So what's your point. As a seller I prefer Ebay to make the most money. If I get rare garage 45s I can usually sell them on the side. But I sell a lot of Northern soul and Ebay is the best way to go on those.

So what's your point. .

My point when using Mystic as an example was that you never listed it here, a forum chock full of garage fanatics/collectors. A lot of silent members, some not. Wether you ended up selling this to MTM or not for a nice price is irrelevant. If you get a third and still choose eBay before listing it here you really do not have a reason to complain. That eBay is the hot spot for NS is really just a bonus, that such a venue even exists.

Bottom line is...I want to make top dollar on my records. SUE ME. In the past I always did much better on rare records on Ebay. I have 100,000 so-so ($$5-$40) records that I may start listing on this and other forums at set sales. But basically I'm kinda lazy and sell rare stuff on Ebay when I need money. My rare stock is getting a bit thin so I'll probably start selling around here. But just ask Mike or BossHoss or BW how many records I've sold on the side and not on ebay. There are certain guys who offer me really nice prices for really rare stuff and those are the guys that I don't mind losing a few bucks to because they are good customers and they are friends. Let's put it this way, I've sold at least 15-20 records for over $3000 each and only 2 of those were through Ebay. Can't a guy post a pissed off rant when my main source of income has just dropped by half? Remember, this is a double whammy for us sellers, double overseas shipping and now 50% higher fees.

The word GAY also refers to happiness, which many buyers (in specific) record collectors on this forum obviously have for eBay. Too bad if you're a PC type, and you are offended by the term as I used it here.

Buyers don't give a shit about sellers getting rooked by the recent changes to make eBay's investors funds going on the up and up, despite the tremendous losses incurred from sellers fleeing the website in droves.
I think buyers should be sympathetic and be considerate, thereby allowing someone like Joey D to vent, especially you guys located outside of the USA, if you collect '60s garage 45s. Because when guys like Joey D bail on ebay, you won't have direct access to adding to your collections anymore. You will have to revert to the golden days of yore - networking, making friends / contacts, and doing work beyond that of perusing web pages on an auction site.

I don't sell things on eBay, only buy. Enjoy the nice, warm, fuzzy blanket statement.

ebay is ripping sellers off. in january I sold some rare records for a total of 700 dollars. I ended up paying close to 100 dollars in fees ebay and paypal!!!

I find myself buying less on the bay, i will just wait for allentown and wfmu this year.

I don't blame you for being upset. Everyday Ebay finds a new and better way to extract every micro-cent they can out of sellers. I haven't sold anything on Ebay for almost two years and a lot of it has to do with the "gig 'em" fees they shove on sellers.

$2700+ for the Graveyard Five could be a good deal considering that two Dovers 45s have sold for the same/more and a lot of lesser but rare 45s have sold into the mid $1K range. The record looked like it had some condition problems - visable large scratches and greyed grooves. Even so, its still a Graveyard Five 45!
