G45 Ebay Watch

The winner is another Australian collector who is hunting for American garage 45s. I'm not sure if he is registered on G45 or not, so I won't divulge his name.
I agree that the Henchmen was way overpriced. The fact that only one bidder placed a bid illustrates that point.
The vocal does have that style which was overdone in the 80s scene, the over-the-top snarling that was part and parcel of every throwback/recreation song written to sound authentic.

There's a really fabulous entry on The Sloths over on Garage Hangover. I wonder if this is co-incidence or perhaps the copy comes from an ex group member?

I dealt the Sloths pic sleeve (no record came with it) to Mark - I had won it in an auction in the late '90s (not ebay or on-line) for about $30. The ebay offered 45 and sleeve makes it the second PS to surface, to my knowledge. Too bad the members who had copies threw them into the garbage!

6. A VG++ copy of The Stonemen (Canadian) - Faded Colors on Maritimem sold for $1248.67 !!

Don't think this price is way out there. Extremely hard to find and a great 45. This is perhaps known copy number 4 or 5? The guy that "discovered" Stonefield had/has 2 copies, BossHoss got one(?) (can't remember if you had one or if Brent sent a file for the inclusion on Wyld Canada?)

That being said, I wouldn't have bought from the seller behind this copy. Questionable grading system going on + 2 really ugly stickers. One completely covering the label logo and the other one on the flip he didn't even bother taking a photo of.

The Stonemen 45 was known about in the early 90s. I knew of at least three copies back then, two in the collections of US collectors. The auction winner must be a DJ type, unconcerned with grade or condition - just the opportunity to show off the 45 at the next wing-ding.

$6550....HOLY SHIT!!!!

Well, it IS number 3 on the almighty G45 list, and since number 4 can presently be bought for approx $4,200.00, the final price for the Sloths was almost written in stone beforehand. Who's gr****le, Ben?

Did you listen to the sound clips on the Sloths' auction? Makin' Love' had some serious background fuzziness that started 10 or 20 seconds into the song. It might be something that could be cleaned, but the intro was fine and the B-side sounded great. Styrene burned by a bad needle?

$6,550 for a nice sleeve, wow. But, if it's true one guitarist threw out a whole box of them, then yes, it would be very rare indeed.

Yes I have a copy, now. At the time of Wyld Canada, I didn't have it, and Brent supplied the transfer. A couple of years ago Soundog decided to sell up his Canadian treasures, and I purchased his mint copy, also the Fringe ep.
As for the Sloths, I guess $6550 is close to the true worth. In fact, it must be a fair price since several bidders were bidding high, and probably no other copies will available in the foreseeable future. With the picture sleeve, I think it's the most desirable of all 60s garage records to own. It has everything*, including the most amazing sound quality that you could imagine.

*definition of "everything"
1 - one of the best and most crazed cuts on any Back From The Grave volume
2 - flipside is also a killer, in it's own way
3 - one of the rarest 60s garage 45s
4 - one of the best looking (though flimsy) 60s garage sleeves
5 - one of the rarest 60s garage sleeves
6 - one of the best quality sound recordings of any type, ever.

I have MTM to thank for allowing me to purchase his sleeve (he didn't have the record, just the sleeve). I had spotted the Sloths 45 for $90 on a Metro Music set sale list. At the time I had no idea that the sleeve existed, so I was blown away when Mike sent me a scan. The price I offered seemed very high for just a paper sleeve, at the time...
