G45 Ebay Watch

Well didn't Denise & Co récord sold for 10 k ? I read that somewhere dont remember where, is this correct?

I think I could never pay that much for a record or maybe I better have 90 percent of all my want list.
Did someone from the forum won the auction??

$6550....HOLY SHIT!!!!

So, anybody know who won this (or for that matter who the runner up is)?

FWIW, I received the following response from the seller when inquiring as to the provenance of the record:

"The drummer, Sam Kamrass, was formerly my brother-in-law. I received this record from his family at the time I married his sister. I have had the record in my possession since 1973. It is stone original."

The guy who won it "lives" in Detroit and as far as I know connected to the W.S., I am sure people here will know who he is.
The runner up was BW - stanco_rules....

This is from the leader of the Believers who recorded for AOK and Josie and is not garage. Hard driving R&B and the price is driven by a deejay no doubt. Rare disc, killer tune, but that price is insane. Would love a copy but won't be able to compete on the 'open' market if that's a realistic price.

Did you listen to the sound clips on the Sloths' auction? Makin' Love' had some serious background fuzziness that started 10 or 20 seconds into the song. It might be something that could be cleaned, but the intro was fine and the B-side sounded great. Styrene burned by a bad needle?

$6,550 for a nice sleeve, wow. But, if it's true one guitarist threw out a whole box of them, then yes, it would be very rare indeed.

Records like this one, and a few others from Los Angeles that I can think of off-hand like the Locks, and Lord Charles and the Profits, were mastered very loud / intense. Plus they are all styrene pressings. One play back in 66 with the all-too-common sapphire needles sheared the groove wall, causing groove distortion. Unless you obtain verified/never-played copies, all remaining suffer from varying degrees of distortion and burn, depending upon factors like # of times played, the type of playback component (most kids had portable or cheap players), etc.
Seems quite obvious that the folks at Ramhorn Publishing and Vendo Music discovered how lousy the Sloths and the other early Impression label 45s looked and sounded so they switched to a different manufacturer after the Sloths 45.

As much as I would like to say I won the Sloths record, I didn't even place a bid. For the record though, I live in Nashville and work for Third Man Records. Any other questions about my background can be directed to Shakesomeaction

Is this who I think it is?
